We had a magical short weekend at Point Reyes National Seashore and stayed at the very charming Motel Inverness. We knew after seeing the place as well as our room that we were very lucky they had a vacancy owing to a last minute cancellation. Usually we were told by the very attentive manager that the motel is booked. The homey sign and the wonderful garden with its bubbling fountain beckon you to come in and investigate. The room that was available was very immaculate and newly remodelled. It was tastefully furnished in very serene and calming color tones. It had two rooms with skylights, a kitchenette, a large bathroom and a deck which looks out on Tomales Bay. It had a walkway to the Tomales Bay where you can observe birds (see picture). The deck itself was very relaxing and offered views of birdlife as well as a magnificent sunrise on our last day (see picture). We hiked to Tomales Point (see pictures). We woke up early to hike that day and cooked our own breakfast. The kitchenette had all the implements we need for our breakfast (pots, frying pans, turner, mini-oven, mini-fridge, plates, glasses, forks, spoons, knives, washing fluid, sponge, paper towels and even ruber gloves!) It made for a wonderful breakfast by our deck watching the Bay which was initially misty, observing egrets wading in the early morning and seeing the sunrise over the hills. The place is an excellent base being about equidistant from the north and south part of the park. There was a wonderful common area in the lodge where there is big stone fireplace you can light a fire if you wanted to anytime, complimentary coffee and biscotti, internet access and its own deck area. We did not have time to partake of this but will do so on our return. The manager was very helpful and got us dinner reservations, driving directions back to San Francisco, advise on traffic and time of departure and got our boarding tickets. She is an asset to this place. We thought we found a treasure in this motel in Point Reyes and plan to return to this place again.
