I want those reading this review to know that we did NOT choose to stay at this paticular hotel. That's neither saying we would or would not have chosen it, but we were traveling with a group and accomodations were made by our group's host. That was just the way it went. Plus, we needed to have a pet-friendly hotel so we could bring our dog. This hotel was within everyone's price range and was fine with pets, so aside from never seeing it or reading about it, reservations were made.
The hotel's location is oddly situated on a corner lot, where there is only one way in and out. The lot is big, as it is shared with a now closed restaurant. There is no place to get food or drinks within walking distance. There is nothing across the street from the hotel except for train tracks, which were in frequent use (more on that later). Whenever we exited the hotel's lot, we could only go one direction. When coming back, we had to drive beyond the hotel parking lot and make a u-turn and go back. Not a huge deal, just thought that was a little odd . . .
The hotel itself is kept up pretty well. The temperature was in the low 50's during our 2-night stay, so we can't comment on the pool/spa. Our room, which was upstairs in the first building facing the street (there are more, separate buildings behind this one), was of adequate size for the 4 of us and our dog and nicely appointed with a good-size, newer LG flat screen TV, DVD player, microwave, and refrigerator (bigger than at any hotel I've ever stayed at). Everything operated as it should. The queen beds were slightly uncomfortable for my husband and I as we're used to our memory foam mattress at home, but that's just us. Our two kids said they were comfortable and slept fine.
Bathroom was clean and had plenty of towels and a stall shower (no tub). We found that to be better for us than a tub shower, but others may miss or need that feature. The bathroom fan must not have been working properly as it was extremely LOUD.
Our only complaint with our room is that along with the humming of the refrigerator (which we're not used to hearing when we're in bed) and the constant on-off, on-off of the AC unit (which was right next to our bed), we hardly slept. Couldn't turn it off, it was too cold. Had to keep it on and deal with it. But when the trains came by at 5:32 a.m., and 5:47 a.m., and again at 6:31 a.m. and yet AGAIN at 6:43 a.m. I was wishing we had gotten a chance to check out this hotel before blindly agreeing on staying there with the rest of our group. No joke - the train was just across the street from the hotel and was so loud and had such force that it sounded like thunder.
The free continental breakfast was okay. The little room they have set up with tables and chairs is not at all large enough to accomodate. There were lots of people eating in the hallway. I suppose in warmer weather the patio doors would be open, but not when it's really cold. There was the usual complimentary breakfast fare - breads, cereals, coffee, juice, yogurt, etc., etc. We opted to try the scrambled eggs the first morning, but that ended up being a mistake. They looked like eggs, but were horribly dry yellow balls of . . . ? We saw one of the female employees making more in the microwave, so we saw where they came from and how they were made. They were packaged in such a way as to "look, taste and feel like real scrambled eggs" when they were done, but sadly, they did not. There was a pancake maker and a waffle maker available, but the pancake maker wasn't working and we didn't want to stand in the long line to make one waffle, so we stuck to bagels and yogurt.
On a good note, the staff was friendly and helpful and always smiling. One employee even came out from behind the desk to pet our dog. That was nice!
FYI: They have a list of restaurants in and around Indio, so don't forget to ask them for it! We did and enjoyed a delicious Italian dinner at Mario's.
The kids made use of the selection of free DVD
Ask for ANY room that is NOT facing the train tracks!!!

We want to thank you for taking the time to write a review. It really are comments such as these that can help us to achieve our goal of providing superior customer service each and every day.
We take your compliments with a great deal of pride. And...we take your concerns with an open ear and a willingness to correct any mistakes. We understand that we may never be 100% perfect--but we certainly are aiming for that on a daily basis.
Let me just address a few of the concerns: there are about 10 dining establishments that are within 8 minutes of the hotel. From Chinese, to Seafood, to Thai, to Steakhouses, to Barbeque...we have a plethora of great places to eat minutes from our hotel. And as you said, we have specific directions with a list of these places that we hand out at check in. Also wanted to let you know that our Olympic P\ool is heated year-round--so even if the temperatures do drop into the 40's(and they can in the winter)we have our pool all set to go. And as for the trains...there is a track across the street from the hotel. We normally do not have many complaints on this...but again, we understand that each person is different. And if occupancy permits, we will gladly move any guest who has noise issues to another building more away from the trains. Also: if there is every any issue with noise from a refrigerator or a fan...we will fix it. Period. We have a maintenance staff here...and they are here to fix any issues that may arise over the course of a stay.
Again...your review is very important to us. And we really do hope on your next return to Indio that you will give us another chance. We really want nothing more than to have you as a loyal Best Western Date Tree guest for many years to come.
