Description: In 1924, a history of quality began when Floyd E. Shields planted his date grove in the Southern California desert. 90 Years later Shields Date Garden continues to grow the finest freshest dates and date products in the U.S.A. Preserving a tradition of hard work and excellence. As we continue to celebrate our 90th anniversary, we wanted to update everyone about our exciting year. Our newly remodeled Cafe at Shields continues to serve breakfast and lunch with seating indoors and on our beautiful patio outdoors. On October first, will we open our restaurant for dinner. We are quite anxious and look forward to seeing you this fall. Are you planning a special event? We offer an outstanding opportunity for parties up to 250 people. Our patio is unequaled in its beauty and seclusion. We have also finished The Walk at Shields. This garden path winds through our 17 acres of towering date palms. Underneath their majestic canopies are 15 scenes that include 23 statues chronologizing Christ's life. We invite you to tour our magnificent garden. Finally we would like to sincerely thank all of you for your gracious support. We could not do this without you.

“Great little diversion on Hwy 111”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2012

This is a great little diversion in La Quinta/Indio. The outside terrace is spacious and comfortable; the service and food are good. If you want to try a good breakfast outdoors, this is the place to be. I am fond of the Machaca plate and you can't go wrong with a tasty plate of fresh French toast. It's clear there's more landscaping and plans coming. I could see the large pond beyond a fence - by late fall this will be a perfect place to relax and dine.

“Good coffee, but Where Are the Dates in my Date Pancakes?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

I had read reviews of the Shields Date Garden Cafe and decided to have breakfast here. The coffee was excellent and the service friendly and efficient. I opted for the $8.95 date pancakes (no extras, bacon, side of fruit. etc, just three pancakes) and was disappointed that they were not brimming with the delicious fruit as described on the menu. My husband had the Santa Fe omlet and was overwhelmed with the quality and taste. Perhaps I should have questioned my pancakes, but....well, I didn't. On our way through the Palm Springs area, we will surely stop at Shields to pick up some delectable dates at their shop and stroll the grounds.

“Great date shakes”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2012 via mobile

Fun, touristy stop. Great place to cool off and enjoy the yummy date shakes. Lots of samples to munch on while perusing the numerous aisles of souvenirs, edible gift items and dates. Who knew there were so many varieties and ways to present dates! Unique garden ornaments for sale in the patio area by the restaurant. Haven't eaten there yet. Maybe on our next trip. The soda fountain usually satisfies our snacking needs as they also offer rootbeer floats and just a simple scoop of ice cream which is a hit with the little ones.

“Eat on the Patio”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012

Lovely patio perfect for Lunch or brunch. We had a lovely Mother's Day brunch there ordering off the menu instead of an exorbitantly priced hotel buffet. The patio is a little toasty in July, but the rest of the year it is great weekdays or weekends. And of course visitors should not leave the Coachella Valley without a date shake.
I have also purchased many gift packs of dates for mailing or my standard hostess gift when I travel outside the Valley.
