“Not worth the Visit!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2011

My recent visit to this property was very disappointing.. Just a 2 day quick trip for business...
Marriott Gold Member.... requested an upgrade, and a quiet room away from any large groups, elevators, vending... Arrived very late in the evening.... My account incorrectly listed as Silver Status...no upgrade? Very long walk to the room assigned, hallways covered in loose colored feathers, and room service debris everywhere?? i knew I was in for trouble... Room condition was shabby , dented walls, long black hairs in the bathroom... TV not working.... Doors slamming and drunk people walking in the halls (1:45 a.m.) Engineering called me ... Asked me to move the bureau and try and plug in the TV...apparently a on going issue with cables coming undone? It worked.... :-)
Following day... 6:45 A M., all the mommys and daddys in the hallway with armies of small children, headed down to the buffet and pool... (Yawn).... Tried to go back to sleep, but HOUSEKEEPING, was in the hallway knocking on doors,....yelling..."HOUSEKEEPING"!!??? This was at 7:15 in the morning, at a resort hotel, on a Sat Morning?? Spoke to Front Desk, requested upgrade and new room location.... Nothing available with a pool view , and the mountain view they offered was 2 blocks from the lobby area (Very Large Property).... From my observation,,,,the hotel was very lightly booked, and I'm guessing had plenty of rooms and suites in stock?? Remember, I'm GOLD, with Marriott:-) Apparently, the 40-50 nights required to achieve this coveted status, is irrelevant to them?? Maybe it was the Package Deal they were offering?? Should it matter??
Figured I was leaving in the morning..... Ordered Room Service for breakfast.... Had to call , when it was 20 mins late?? "Sorry Sir", we're very busy today"?? Thanks...I have a plane to catch? Checked Out at the Desk, was supposed to receive a Voucher for free Companion Air Fare, and 2, $50.00, credits,,,,with the package I purchased..... Agent forgot to credit the monies due, and no voucher with receipt.... But..they didn't forget to charge the $25.00, per day..Resort Fee??
Had to call from the Airport....waited on HOLD forever, then they asked me to please call back on Monday to ask for my refund and voucher:-)??? This is a Category 5 Marriott Resort?? I loved the Indian Wells Golf Resort, where the hotel is located.... I will indeed go back to this area, but will stay with Hyatt, that also has a property there....

Room Tip: My observation was that the rooms are very tired, as are the hallways and common areas? Also, the d...

My husband, teen-age son, and I just stayed at the Esmeralda over Thanksgiving week-end. They offered a great price on the room plus $50/night resort credit which we used for breakfast. Surprisingly the cafe prices were very reasonable and the plates came loaded with food! Even my 17 year old could not finish the breakfast and he's hungry 24/7. The pool was very nice with lots of cut-outs so we could easily find a spot away from families with young children. We used the gym quite a bit and the equipment is varied and brand new - weight machines, mats with stabilizer balls, plus many treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, and one stair-stepper. The staff was very friendly as well. On the downside, the resort could use some sprucing up. The elevators were a bit down-trodden and our room was starting to show it's age. Nothing terrible, just something that one would notice as needing an update. Beds were very comfortable and the room with 2 queens had plenty of room. We had a lovely view of the pool and mountains. Also, and perhaps this is because of the holiday week-end, it seemed housekeeping was short staffed. The second day no one cleaned our room and finally at 5pm we had to call and ask for service. They came promptly. Also, we accidentally spilled a big tub of ice in the hallway and had no way to clean it up. I called housekeeping and they said they would send someone right away but 3 hours later it was still melting into the hall carpet. Overall, it was a great deal and perfect if you are looking for a nice resort with all the amenities but don't want to spend $250/night. If you don't need all the fancy bells and whistles, but like a friendly, welcoming resort then the Esmeralda might be perfect for you.

Room Tip: Ask for moutain view overlooking the pool. The sunset glow on the desert rocks is beautiful.

The entrance is gorgeous; the staff was amazing; the pool area was inviting; the restaurant was delicious; however, it was very loud in the hotel at night when trying to go to sleep.

Do not get a room with your door facing the lobby area on any floor. Take the walk and have a room on one of the wings.

Everything else was great and we would stay again!

If they had Olympics for bad hotel design, Esmeralda would hold the Pentathlon record. I not sure why anyone thought an 8-story atrium in a 7-floor hotel with a singles-scene bar at the bottom would be a good idea, but they ought to hang him. And if you get a room overlooking the valet parking -- rooms XX17-21 -- you get the worst of both worlds, noise outside your door AND noise outside your window. And don't think closing the door and the windows will help; room doors have apparently been custom-designed to maximize the flow of noise by not actually reaching the floor.

The other reviews are correct -- the staff is VERY friendly. The room service crew is ESPECIALLY good. The grounds are lovely, the pool is lovely, the fitness room is lovely.

But none of that makes up for an entire night tossing and turning and waking up every 30 minutes when some drunken lout decides nighttime is just too quiet.

Room Tip: An off-atrium room is the only hope for those who like to sleep. At all.

The hotel is very nice. Staff was great. Ask for a room that is not above the bar and restaurant downstairs. You can hear it when they have event going on. Bearable though. Not a big deal. I was on 4th floor so it was close to noise. The room is spacious and clean. The pool was awesome. They were showing a movie by the pool. Kids loved it. Awesome time!

Room Tip: Ask for 5th floor and above or rooms off to the side for quietness

We stayed here this past summer with our baby. It is a great family hotel. There are a lot of activities for parents and children. The pool area is really nice. We went when it was really crowded but felt that there was enough space for everyone. There is even a kiddie pool which was great for us. I would definitely recommend this hotel for families.

Room Tip: I enjoyed the pool view room - but if you are sensitive to noise then avoid.

The staff was amazing. If you wanted a bowl and spoon to your room, it was there quick. If you wanted a bicycle, they had it with helmet, basket and lock. Any type of direction or suggestion, they were all over it. The pineapple and/or strawberry water was also a great touch!

Room Tip: Overlooking the pool was such a relaxing sound and the lights are beautiful.
