Our California friends took us to eat here as it is one of their favorites. It feels personal in a good way. Owner Gina is welcoming and vivacious. What she may lack for size is made up for in personality. The late March day was right for sitting outside under the trees. Our group of four ordered sandwiches. My corned beef was ample and satisfying and came with a variety of choices for a side. The restaurant sits just off the main road but a short way up the hill from the main activity of Idyllwild so it was quiet enough to hear the birdsong and our conversation with each other.
Jerry asked if she could provide a couple of the restaurant's small flavored cake-like breads to take with us. Gina said if we could give them a couple hours, they would be glad to bake them to order. They did and we found the cranberry variety delicious after dinner. It turns out Jerry ordered enough of these to give as gifts in December as well-received gifts for local friends.
Idyllwild is a unique getaway in the piney woods and Little Chef in the Forest made it even more special for us.
