My three friends and I stayed in this hotel for two nights in March. It was the second of 3 hotels we stayed in on our trip to Southern CA.
The location of the hotel was fine. It does not have a view of the ocean, nor is it within walking distance of the beach, but the beach is just a short drive away (about 2 miles). Beach Boulevard, the street on which this hotel is located, is a divided highway with lots of businesses and restaurants, but is not what I would consider a "walkable" street. I think the lack of good places within walking distance is the biggest downside of this hotel, but if you have a car, it's fine. Also, Main St. and the beach are a $7 or $8 cab ride away.
The staff at the BW Regency Inn were very friendly and helpful. They were always willing to supply extra towels, give directions, and suggestions of things to do. They provide a continental breakfast each morning with juice, milk, coffee, tea, donuts, cold cereal, toast, bagels, pastries, muffins, and fruit cups. It's not terrific, but definitely satisfactory.
The hotel has a pool and jacuzzi, both located outside. We didn't use them because we were busy and the weather was cold, but they looked clean and the pool was clearly heated. They also provide soda and snack machines outside, as well as a laundry room.
The rooms themselves were suprisingly large and very clean. They have all of the normal amenities: hair dryer, TV, coffee maker, fridge, etc. There is no microwave in the room, but you can use the one in the breakfast area. Entry to the rooms is from outside and the hotel has three levels. They provide an elevator and parking is free and convenient.
If you stay in Huntington Beach, it is definitely worthwhile to get off of Beach Boulevard and visit the Main Street area, where there are some cute shops and great restaurants. This place really exemplifies the Southern CA lifestyle, much more than "generic" beach Boulevard. My favorite restaurant on Main St. was the Huntington Beach Beer Co... I loved it there!
Overall, my experience at the BW Regency was a good one. The staff was helpful, the rooms were clean and spacious, the price was good, and the location a short drive to the beach and Main St. It would have been nice to stay within walking distance of the beach, but places like that are hard to come by in orange county when you're on a budget.
