“Surfs inn is the hidden gem of Huntington Beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2013 via mobile

Where to start?
We have been coming to Huntington surf inn for 2 years now and the stay has gotten better each year! The rooms are each unique with awesome individual themes, the beds are comfortable, and the rooms are extremely clean. This place in located 2 blocks off Main Street and is extremely close to many restaurants and shops. The view is spectacular looking right over the Pacific Ocean. There is a large roof deck where guests can gather and relax during the sunsets. The true anchors to this place are the managers James and Julie. These two are perfect for such a unique hotel and really made our stay. From the stories, to life lessons, these two are really the reason we booked again. They share a true compassion for their guests and are always available to accommodate their guests. Overall this place may not be the flashiest from the outside but once you take the walk up the steps to the office you will never regret the decision. I can not wait to return next year! Thank you for the wonderful memories and I can not wait to make new ones next year

Dear Ehall77,
Thank you so much for your continued patronage. We are indeed a very different lodging than the chain hotels that are ubiquitous to Huntington Beach. We welcome you home with each visit, and revel in your joy and success in coming back to our beautiful city and incredible beaches. Friendships formed at the Inn really allow us to endure the occasional rainy days that is part and parcel of life in the lodging industry.
Please accept our gratitude for your friendship and repeat business!

We stayed for one night at this great place. We booked last minute on a side trip to take a break from the Disneyland portion of our trip and wanted to visit Huntington Beach. We were so impressed with the simplicity of the Inn. The room had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. 2 beds, bathroom, nice decor. A nice deck to sit and take in the breath taking view of the beach. It was so awesome we are going back to stay for 2 weeks Aug 2014 to take in the Nike Surfers competition and simply enjoy the laid back vibe in Huntington. Such a convenient location walking distance to great restaurants, bars, shopping and of course the beach. It does not get much better than that. The staff is very pleasant and checking in and out was simple and easy and of course we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.

Room Tip: If you want a room, that is conveniently located to everything you need for a perfect vacation this...

Dear gabriel449,
We thank you so much for your kind patronage during your busy trip. We are truly grateful that you have taken the time to write down what is truly the essence of the Inn. The Huntington Surf Inn is proud to be a fun, sensible, and practical place where you will be amongst friends and feel like you can be at the beach or some cool shops or a fine restaurant within moments after arrival. We promise to always try harder to keep your business and look forward to serving you again during the US Open!
Please take care.

Stayed here in February and loved it.
Stayed in room 5 ( with the big wave on the wall) Comfortable bed, pillows and plenty of towels.
Julie and James were extremely lovely and so helpful with any requests we had. We rented bikes for the day and they even offered to lock them in their garage for extra safety.
We would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Yes the traffic was kind of loud but we brought earplugs with us- easy!

Dear bectrip,
Thank you very much for your kind review. Indeed the strength of any lodging is its staff, and certainly James and Julia have always tried so hard to impart that feeling of family toward our guests.
As you noticed, the beach and Pacific Coast Highway can be lively. We applaud your graciousness in celebrating our location and working around some of the inherent limitations of beach life.
Hope to see you again soon!

Pros: The location is great, right on Pacific Coast Highway, directly across the street from the beach and only a few blocks from Main St and all the action of downtown Huntington Beach. The price is good for the location. Most beachfront hotel/motels charge a lot more. I took the advice of some of the other people who posted comments, and reserved a room toward the back of the building, farther away from the street. I did not have any issues with street noise. The bed was comfortable and I slept really well. The room was clean. No bedbugs (I checked!). The building is old, built in the 1960's, so it isn't the Hilton, but who cares? If you want the Hilton, it's down the street, but this place is a good value, a good location, a clean room and a comfortable bed.

Cons: The bed sheets were stained and had black hairs on them. I told the front desk and they apologized and immediately changed the sheets. They had to try several sheets since the first one or two were also stained. Finally they found one with just tiny stains and used it. I know the sheets were probably laundered, and just had stains that didn't come out in the wash, but the hair part was icky. However, the managers did resolve it right away.

The TV remote didn't work, but no big deal, I brought it to the front desk and they gave me another one right away.

I asked for a late checkout and was denied, so I was a little unhappy about that. Their reasoning was that they were sold out that night and the housekeeper only had a short period of time in which to clean the rooms. I felt that after paying for two nights and having hair in the sheets, that they could have accommodated my request and allowed me to stay an extra hour, while the housekeeper cleaned the other rooms, but they did not.

In conclusion, my take is this: great location, good price, clean room, comfortable bed. BUT, check the bed sheets, and if you want a late checkout, you may not get it.

Room Tip: Get a room toward the back, farther away from the street to cut down on street noise.

We had a great experience. This is not an upscale hotel - the rooms are fairly small, it's an older building, there are no coffee makers or ice machines ... but, it is an amazing location, Julie and James went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable, and we had an incredible experience. If being right across the street from the beach, three blocks from the Huntington Beach Pier / Downtown, having free parking, being able to walk everywhere, and staying in a friendly casual place is more important to you than being in a more upscale place (for the same price) but farther from the beach, then I recommend the HB Surf Inn.

Room Tip: Room one is closest to the highway, room eight is farthest away. We were in four and it was fine fo...

Right on Pacific Coast Highway. Clean, plenty of space and friendly hosts.

Was recommended it by a colleague who stayed at Huntington Surf Inn on our previous trip to Huntington Beach. After my stay I would recommend it to travellers looking for the relaxed feel and not wanting the formal hotel experience.

The service was great. Very friendly and accommodating. The room, well, it is very old and small. I guess they have done as well as they can with what they have but dont expect a nice updated room as if you were staying at a chain. Again, service is great but room is small, old and not well insulated from the road noise or the room next door. If you are traveling alone or with one other friend for a night this place should be fine but it would be very tight for a family or an extended stay.

Room Tip: You want to be as far away from the highway as possible if you are a light sleeper.
