If you are ever lucky enough to visit the epicenter of Orange County California and not stop by 217 Main St, you have sorely missed out. I'm fortunate enough to make it a yearly stop each July for the US Open of Surfing. Two meals a day Friday - Sunday, never trying the same thing twice. The food is fantastic, something for every appetite. I usually stick with the seafood; try the Mahi Mahi with their world famous Jamaican glaze. Try that glaze on anything really!!! The Teriyaki sauce is pretty much the same, too good to be true. The Mrs. had the Teriyaki Chicken twice! The Teriyaki Mahi is almost as prefect as the Jamaican version. The apps are the right size to share or make a meal from.... Whether it is fish tacos, prok sliders, steak quesadillas or chicken fingers (in Regular, Buffalo or Jerk), it will be tasty, it will be satisfying. The only app I have never tried are the oysters but everybody else speaks highly of those little guys!
Did I mention full bar and over 15 beers on tap? Authentic long surfboards on the walls?
Heather, Casey, Kelly, Kristen, Patrick, it doesn't matter who is working.... Even if it is busy, you will always get an acknowledgement of your presence. A smile and a kind word, I won't ask for much more. With that said, you get alot more regardless. Beautiful and friendly people who are not only able to stay on track with the responsibilities in front of them, but willing to listen, lending an ear to the classic bar guest relationship.
The location is also perfect. Two blocks from the beach, and half the price of that bar on the pier. Sit outside on Main St. or on the back patio, which is large enough for private parties. (They are currently doing their Fantasy Football Draft Party promotion.... I won't get into it, but I sure wish I had my draft on the west coast.)
If I had to say something negative about The Longboard......... It would be of the owner's baseball affiliation, as he is a Red Sox fan. You can even check out some old nostalgia from Fenway inside the pub. That would however, be the only thing. Without The Longboard my yearly "vacation" to HB would be nothing so special. This Yankees Fan can find forgiveness in his heart for a Pub like The Longboard any day!
NOTE* "Very Good" for Business Meals must be taken with this grain of salt.... Huntington Beach Business........ Suits will look a little funny, but not terrible. Way I see it, if you have business at the beach, you better be a lawyer wearing a suit.
