“Good food, good drinks, fast service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2012

Dropped into Fred's for a fast lunch mid-afternoon. It was during a volleyball tournament, so we expected a long wait to sit- took about 5 minutes to get a table. Prices were reasonable- both husband and I had a taco plate. The pescado (fish tacos) were tasty and well cooked- grilled with a light seasoning. Price per person including a margarita came to about $20 a person, which I felt was was reasonable for a place that could easily be described as a tourist trap.

Bottom line: Food is above average, service was attentive, even though it was 2pm on a Sunday and they were slammed, drinks were strong and well-made.

“Always loud and lively”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

Great view of the beach. Good food, Better drinks, Great people watching. Service is usually on the slow side because it's always so busy. Don't come if you're in a hurry. You're gonna wait for a table and wait for your check.

“Just OK Mexican (Fast) Food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

Food was less than fine, drinks are average and service was TERRIBLE. The atmosphere was cool, very noisy, and not really friendly for a child (not allowed anyways after 9pm I think). Seriously, there is so much Mexican restaurant options in the area, I definitely think you should pass on this one.

“Good Americanized Mexican fare”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2012 via mobile

Great place for the ambience and the location. They've got inside and outside seating and depending on where you get seated outside, you have a view of the ocean. We did and it was beautiful in the evening.
The food - chips and salsa - the firt thing they bring out - big thumbs down. Tasteless bland tomatoes and oily characterless chips.
We ended up ordering charbroiled chicken fajita and the El Rey. The beans and rice were pretty good and so was the food. Stay away from the pescado tacos. Ugh! They were part of the El Rey combo and they were a watery mess.
Like I said in the title, good food but if you're looking for authentic Mexican fare, keep looking. We will.....
