“Bolsa Chica is a Nice Beach, but there is No Pier”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Bolsa Chica has plenty of parking with cost of a state beach, and no available 'street' or free parking. The beach is flat, with currently fire rings. There are bathrooms and snack shacks. There is a shared path for walkers, joggers and bikes. During the afternoon there is an off shore cool breeze. If you park at the Warner Street end, there is a Jack in the Box and other restaurants. But there is no pier, the closest pier is Huntington Beach Pier at Main Street to the South or in Seal Beach to the North.
The Bolsa Chica Wetlands are across the street from the entrance to Bolsa Chica Beach.

great facilities, usually mellow surf break for beginners. Costs $15 to park or you can get a annual State Pass for $195.

“Great for many beach experiences!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

Be it riding along the bike path, parking your RV or stopping at Duke's or Sandy's for a nice meal... This beautiful stretch of beach has it all. Volleyball and surfing during the day and bonfires and fishing at night. And great people watching day or night. Good for couples, friends or family time.

“The Beloved Beach Bonfire Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

I'm just realizing that we've never reviewed this beloved tradition, and we should definitely make visitors aware of it before the fire pits disappear! (they are at risk in a proposed ban by the Air Quality Management District, but that's another story). We live locally, and hold friends and family beach bonfires at Bolsa Chica State Beach a half dozen or so times per year. We had one last Friday, and it was wonderful, as usual. There is something about joining loved ones at the sea, with the beautiful smells of wood smoke, hot dogs, marshmallows and salt air around you -- a very special California experience that may not last forever. All you need to do to participate is to pay the $15 parking entrance fee, bring wood (easily purchased at area groceries) and blankets or beach chairs -- and then bring whatever you want to cook, if anything. We usually do hot dogs and s'mores, and the guests bring pot luck dishes like sweet corn, pineapple for grilling, chili in pots, and munchies. It helps to bring a table, but that's not necessary. Alcohol's not allowed, no problem. Sunset is always special at this clean, beautiful beach and the fire pits are not a long sand walk for those who may be a bit handicapped. Restrooms are clean and abundant. And it's a wonderful evening, til the park closes at about 9:45 pm on Summer nights.

“nothing extra”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

Sand, surf & sun - Just like most beaches in southern California. But if you like taking walks on a beach, it is fairly nice long one.
