The owner of the cabin was WONDERFUL to deal with. She answered questions quickly before and during our stay. A very pleasant lady. The cabin was in a wonderfully quiet location on flat ground with good privacy in the back yard. Unfortunately, we didn't get to enjoy the back deck as we would have liked since there was no patio furniture of shading of any kind. We were disappointed since we like to live outside and were looking forward to relaxing there. The sweet cabin owner offered to have us move the dining chairs outside, but they simply were not comfortable for lounging hours in. Also, it would have been a little bothersome to have had to bring them in and out daily.
We did love the fact that the cabin is located close to the bike path along the lake. We loved biking the 4.6 miles to Tahoe City. There's nothing like a 9.2 (round trip) mile bike ride along the lake to get the circulation going. :-) We really appreciated the bike path. It makes for a stress free bike ride not having to deal with traffic.
The kitchen was a nice size with fully stocked cabinets of every utensil, pot, pan, bowl you could want/need. It was very refreshing to not have to "make due" with kitchen supplies, as we have done in other cabins. It was just like being at home. Thanks for the wonderfully stocked kitchen.
We also appreciated the full sized refrigerator, dishwasher, clothes washer & dryer, the HD television and DVD player, the ample amount of linens, the BBQ, and the ability to park within the side yard behind the gate.
Some improvements that would have made our stay perfect would be: 1) Curtains or blinds on all windows for added privacy and to block the sunshine on hot days. Tahoe was experiencing hotter than usual temperatures and it made for a hot cabin at times, as well as difficulty watching television due to the sun shining into eyes while in living room. 2) Repairing of the broken kitchen fawcett. 3) Addition of patio furniture and a market umbrella on the back deck. 4) Better cleaning service. Upon arrival I didn't want to touch anything - in the kitchen especially. The counter tops felt like they hadn't been washed down in over a week. There were crumbs, sticky spots, and overall filth. The coffee maker was filthy inside the thermos, in the filter basket and mold was inside the water compartment. The microwave had grease splashed on the outside door and dirt on top. Yet, the stove top was in pretty good shape. Before we unpacked, I went through cabinets and washed several loads of dishes (since some looked dirty...didn't want to guess which were clean and which were dirty every time I wanted to cook something); washed all counters and appliances, sanitized the toilet and sinks. I was hoping I would have been able to just relax when I arrived, but my experience with rental cabins has been that the cleaning services leave a lot to be desired. The same experience happened here as well. This is disappointing since a cleaning fee is charged. I feel like I often should be paid to do the cleaning instead since we leave cabins cleaner than we find them. 5) Lastly, some repair work on the window screens would help keep the critters out of the cabin. Spiders, millipedes, monstrous black ants, and flying ants (or something that looked like long bodied flying ants) were par for the course, but when the BAT was able to get in through the screen in the upstairs bedroom, we were shocked...especially since we had been settled into the recliner watching a movie for about 1.5 hours when we saw the little fella fly over our heads!! :-) It was quite the adventure coaxing him out of the cabin through the front door.
Regardless, we can't say enough good things about the Cabin's owner and the location of the cabin. The price was wonderful for what we received! Needless to say, the poor cabin could use quite a lot of repair work (roofing, screens, kitchen fawcett, holes in siding, rickety deck steps, etc.) We would probably rent this cabin again if we find that some of the minor repairs were performed. Again, a great price for a great location and much better than a hotel room!
Great location! Nice flat land to ride bikes. Very close to beach and bike path. Quiet location.
Absence of deck furniture/umbrella . Dirty kitchen. Broken kitchen fawcett. Broken screens (bathroom, sliding glass door, bedroom window). A bat entered through the upstairs window screen. Lack of window coverings for privacy and sunshading.
