New Years Eve - Dec. 31, 2012 at The Pines Restaurant, San Manuel Casino
I have previously written a significantly outstanding review of this restaurant in August 2009, under the penname RanchoGentleman…it appears here on Trip Advisor……..
Expounding on the wonderful style, class and exquisite ambiance this new eatery afforded to us, in the Inland Empire........
I commented that the steak I had enjoyed at the Pines was the best steak I have had since moving to the IE in over 20 years. It was the honest truth, and to this day, IMHO the food is excellent and my review here still supports my initial recommendation of the quality and preparation of the food at the Pines.
But, but, but…..and I mean BUTlets hold the horses here folks……..
This place has now changed……they have gotten bigger……they have long lines of people salivating to get in and party……which is one reason I chose to purchase the New Years Eve package offered by the Pines.(the high quality of food, the other…..)
So, as advertised on TV, for only $90 per person, Yes (only!)……you received a full 3 course menu that had the items already chosen for you from a limited menu…..OK, its NYE and they were gonna be busy, so I get it……..they had a few different times for seating……..and I was told that if the late seating was chosen, (which upped the price either 10 or 20 bucks, I don’t remember exactly), then you could have your booth right next to the dance floor, for the entire evening, or until you left.
So I begged for a booth, but was given no assurances……even though they were sold out, I got lucky enough and landed a booth right next to the DJ. Prime real estate for a NYE party!
We came dressed and ready to play, NYE right? We had beads and hats and noise makers of our own…and entered with the expectations of spending a lot of money, but still enjoying the dinner and drinks and clubbing all night long.
Our booth wasn’t exactly ready, (yes I was glad I got one)…..so we went to the bar for a drink….thats right, one drink. I had one drink at home before driving 30 minutes to the restaurant as well. After we finished the drinks and went to the table, the waiter came and gave us our menus. I asked him for another round of drinks for me and my lady….at this point he tells me that I am CUT OFF for alcohol…..really, on New Years Eve, they cut me off and my friend too…..when I asked to speak to the manager she came over and said that “maybe” I could have another drink after I finished my dinner…..ARE YOU FRIGGIN KIDDING ME? I am a 58 year old gentleman, and to have a 20-30 year old manager tell me that if I was a “good boy” that I could then be served again a big boy beverage?
I was chill about it, not wanting to ruin the evening and embarrass my date…..but I was fuming inside…..no slurred speech, no erratic walking, no outward signs of being wasted….this was a power play……so I figured that I was in “her house” so I decided to lay low….because I figured we had a few more hours to spend there if I wanted to get value for my $90 per plate dinner…….(which included no drinks on NYE!)………and to have some adult fun on the dance floor………
Well I come to find out that through a staff member that I was cut off for the entire night…..no pat on the head after eating my veggies…….nope, 86ed for the booze……
When I mentioned that we wanted to go to the casino for 20 minutes to gamble a little bit, they said that the booth would not be mine when I got back. I reminded them of their assurance when making the reservation that the booth was mine, ($20 extra per person charged over the earlier seating times), they stated that they would not hold the booth open, and if we left, we would forfeit our meal and the 3rd course of dessert. I asked them if I needed to stand guard over my booth to insure not losing it, and they said, basically, yes! I said what if we needed to use the facilities to “freshen up” thoroughout the evening, and they said “we’re sorry sir”. Flippin unbelievable!
The arrogancy of the management staff at this restaurant has taken it from a “don’t miss experience” to one of “only go if you want to be disrespected, cut off if they don’t like you, and be at the whims of the ever present badged mafia walking through to insure that you are behaving according to their unspoken ways”
So, unless you are ready to kiss some collective managements buttocks, keep this truthful story in mind……..when considering where you want to dine and dance………..
