“Very nice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2008

Stayed at this hotel recently and thought it was an excellent choice. Rooms are beautiful - tastefully deocrated, very clean, and comfortable. Had a great oceanfront view from the balcony. Good continental breakfast was included. Staff very helpful too.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights after a couple of days sightseeing in L.A. It was a great escape and a wonderful glimpse of the sunkissed California beach scene. The hotel has a great location right on the beach, which was pleasantly vibrant but not overly crazy (at least in April when we stayed). Lots of healthy, active people (with great tans) out playing beach volleyball, surfing, walking, biking, etc. There is a 26 mile paved path ("The Strand") that runs all the way to Santa Monica. In the Hermosa and Manhattan Beach areas, it's lined with lovely beachside homes/cottages. The area has a very family feel - lots of strollers and people with young children out and about, including at the hotel. The rooms are well-designed and spacious, with separate sleeping and living areas - with views of the ocean if you booked a room with views. The continental breakfast was a nice perk, and the staff were helpful. My only suggestion to the management would be to have another computer available for guest use, and some beach gear (beach chairs, volleyballs, frisbees, etc.). Otherwise, our stay was perfect and I hope we can return someday.

  • Liked — location , views, and room
  • Disliked — not many activities for guests (yoga on Sat morning was advertised but not held)

this is the most beautiful setting for a beach hotel. Rooms face directly onto the beach, although expensive the rooms are stunning. Log fires are a cinch to light 1 match and the log roll is alight. Beds and bedding are of good quality also the toiletries are Aveda and even include make up wipes kitchen area is ideal for quick snacks or making your drinks. Everything was lovely and clean.
The free breakfast is not worth having but the local dinner next door has a wonderful selection. The promenade goes on for miles and is used by all the exercise bods Beach is a lovely pale Sand but the breeze is always blowing. Starbucks is behind the hotel if you need a fix.
Would recommend for a romantic weekend. A lively area a few yards away keeps you occupied and lots of restaurants will make sure you wont go hungry.
We only stayed for 3 days but would return for a longer stay.

We chose the Beach House as a central spot from which we wanted to bike & bar hop for my 35th birthday and were so incrediblly pleased with our experience. We've heard you can own a room at the Beach House, so we're actually going to look into that.

The manager, Jerry, was very helpful, allowed us to check in early (since we were heading out on bikes on the early side) and even let us check out late so we could enjoy a few extra hours of birthday bliss.

We booked an oceanfront room on the top (3rd) floor. I thought groundfloor might be nice so we could just roll out onto the strand but I was very glad to be up above, with a completely unobstructed view of the crashing waves just steps from the Hermosa Pier, instead of having to look out across the sand to the water. These upper rooms are the rooms to get if you're paying for oceanfront, in my opinion.

The price is a good chunk of change but I'd rather stay here any day over Vegas or Cabo combined. Frankly, you'd be paying a whole ton of dough more for an oceanfront room anywhere else. In fact, I'm boycotting Cabo and Hawaii for now. The premium Cabo resorts charge $1,200 for oceanfront rooms and I'm staying put at the Beach House and I'm perfectly happy with that.

The rooms are beautiful, clean, white, beachy. Very nice sitting area a couple steps lower than the bed...great deck with two chairs and a little table. Handy kitchenette with a stovetop, fridge & plenty of glassware, china & silverware. No minibar but that didn't phase us at all. In fact it was nice having the empty fridge (aside from a couple nice chilled bottles of water) so we could fill it up with beverages of our choosing. And there's a liquor store right around the corner where you can fill up with anything you'd like.

Great bathrooms, nice big tub & separate shower. I think it's great they've got a pullout bed in the couch in case you're bringing kids (or anyone else who may need a place to sleep).

The hotel is incredibly convenient (why we chose it in the first place), right next to the popular Hermosa Pier and all its shops, bars & restaurants and close enough to Redondo & Manhattan piers....we biked to both (which I highly recommend, hitting bars along the way). The hotel kept our bikes locked up for us at night which was great...for those without bikes, the staff can refer you to a place that rents nearby. While being so close to the action in Hermosa, the hotel is incredibly quiet, which is a necessity for me. And the sound of the crashing waves just feet beyond was great to fall asleep or have a drink to.

We were certainly sad to leave and spent our last hour, out on the deck, drinking a glass of wine, watching the surf.

We live in the area (20 minutes south) but will definitely be back for another lovely stay at the Beach House. And who knows, maybe just maybe we'll be happy owners of one of these wonderful rooms one day.

  • Liked — Everything, especially sitting out on the balcony enjoying our wine!
  • Disliked — honestly nothing

First off, I had heard alot of positive reviews of the place, and, if I wasn't traveling on business, would probably stay here again.

However, I guess people tend to celebrate here 7 days a week, which means long, sleapless nights and a non-productive workday the next day if you are travelling on business.

The doors are heavy and the hallways are echoing. I was jolted awake by the sound of a heavy, slamming door every time someone came to the party. The party moved to the hallway, and I could hear everything that was said.

Oh yeah, Cheech and Chong next store were not trying to hide the unmistakable smell of the brick of pot they brought into the room. You could smell it up and down the halls.

Actually, it sounds fun if you came to have fun. Business is business and business travelers should stay somewhere else.

  • Liked — The Location is right in the heart of the Hermosa Beach bar scene
  • Disliked — Other guests were there for a reason other than business on a weekday

We had nothing but problems with the front desk person, David. Our room, smelled like fireplace smoke, we asked for a manager in which he refused to get or move us to another room. After promising to put a fan in our room and an ionizer, we returned to find neither. When we asked to be moved to another room as we were getting sick from the smell he refused. Finally after several minutes of conversation a manager appeared and agreed to move us. The hotel did not have a vending machine. This place charges you a ton of money for the view but can not even provide you with clean air to breathe.

  • Liked — The beach was close by.
  • Disliked — The service and amenities.

I recently stayed at the Beach House for a quick biz trip to LA. Wanting to be out of the LAX area, near water and spots to dine without having to battle the LA traffic, I selected the BH. The hotel met all of my requirements including an ocean view room for under $300. The staff was friendly, the location perfect - next to the pier with great spots to dine. The rooms are set up as mini studios with seperate living and sleeping areas on different levels. The small "kitchenette" was equipped with a micro, a two burner hot plate, fridge, dishes, silver, etc. Housekeeping was spotless....restocking products when not needed and a cute little rubber duck for the deep soaking tub with a seperate walk in glass shower.

The hotel is located on the strand so early and late night walks along the ocean were the perfect beginning and end to the day.

Meditteraineo was a great spot for a wide varierty of excellently prepared fresh tapas with a well rounded wine list. I ate there two of four nights. Paradise Sushi was excellent and much better than Club Sushi across the street which is more of a bar scene than fine sushi. There is a new Whole Foods on Sepuleveda - the Disneyland of organic markets where I was able to purchase Fage greek yogurt (hard to find in Denver) and other items for breakfast and lunch before heading to the office.

Very happy with the choice and would return next time I am in LA. for business
