“Perfect stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2013

The Radford In was a very special place to stay. The facilities were wonderful and the staff went out of their way to be accommodating. The natural beauty was augmented by the breathtaking historic home. Had a wonderful time and made long time friends with Dan and Rita. Will definitely return.

The Raford Inn is a historic house that feels far from the hustle of the high-dollar hotel business. The owners treated us like honored guests, especially Dane. He gives an excellent wine making tour (by law, after you check out) and even has names for some of his vines. Breakfast was excellent each day and the hotel view overlooking the vineyard is amazing.

Room Tip: We stayed in the blueberry room. It is fit for royalty.

From the moment we arrived, the level of service was incredible. We had just endured another step in the devolution of air travel, as the service has fallen, and fallen...
At Raford Inn, they didn't rush us through check-in, but let us get settled into our room after a long trip. The wine and cheese receptions each afternoon/evening were delightful. The breakfasts were excellent. The social times with other guests were just right. They helped us plan dinners, visits to wineries, visits to redwood preserve and to the Sonoma coast. The tour of the grounds and discussion of wine-making was great.

My sister and I stayed at the Raford Inn during our sister trip to California. Rita and Dane are wonderful and welcoming hosts...we felt at home right away. The Inn has its own mini-vineyard, which Dane will give you a tour of before you leave on your last day (we loved the tour!), and a gorgeous view of grapes growing in all directions. Every morning a wonderful and very filling breakfast is prepared at 9am, or later or earlier if you arrange a different time. Cookies and other goodies are available in the main area at all times of day too. They will make dinner reservations for you if you wish, and there is a happy hour at the Raford Inn with food and wine at 5:30 every evening.

We stayed in the Rosemary room and found it very cute and well equipped with a refrigerator and some filtered water.

Wine tasting in Hearldburg was wonderful! Make sure you pick up a pass at the Raford Inn which gives you free wine tastings at many of the local vineyards...this saves you a lot of money over time! They have a pass for the Sonoma area too so pick that up if you plan to drive to Sonoma for wine.

Overall, it was a wonderful, relaxing experience filled with delicious food and wine. We will definitely come back one day and highly recommend this Inn to other travelers to the wine country.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Raford Inn B&B this past weekend. The grounds are amazing and the house is really special. The house was built in 1880, I believe, and has been lovingly restored. The most impressive thing about this establishment are the owners, Dane and Rita. They love people and they made our stay absolutely delightful. We plan to return in May for a longer stay.

We recently stayed at Raford Inn for two nights and used it as the base for exploring Sonoma/Russian River. This place has received myriad accolades from previous guests. It is easy to see why. It is beautifully situated with a valley view. Our mornings started by watching humming birds at feeders and dew on flowers in the garden. One morning we sat the hot tub and watched the mist rise over the vineyards. Dane’s enthusiasm and passion for wine making is infectious and his tour of his own growing and wine making operation is not to be missed. Finally, our room was very well-priced; and we considered it a good deal compared to how expensive other Sonoma lodging can be.

And yet, compared to other travelers, our visit was missing something. We stayed in the smallest room in the inn (Rosemary). This room is below the main level of the house, and faces the back of the property. It is very small and poorly lit, making it feel a little claustrophobic. Some of the fixtures in the bathroom really need updating. It was noisy – we could hear footsteps and voices of those in rooms above us, and passersby on the path running right outside our door were often loud. We spent much of our time out exploring Sonoma/Russian River, so this didn’t bother us too much on this brief visit. But I would not recommend this room if you are looking for a space to lounge and relax or if you are staying more than 1 or 2 nights. Another part of our stay that missed the beat was our interaction with our hosts. We often choose B&Bs for the opportunity to get to know “friendly inn-keeping folk”. But this didn’t quite happen. The Raford innkeepers had business that required them to leave right after breakfast both mornings we were there, and they seemed a little preoccupied. I never really felt we got to know them, which was a disappointment and took something away from our experience. Finally, the inn was full both nights. The dining area is not quite large enough for such numbers and breakfast was crowded and not terribly relaxing. We feel we got our money’s worth to be sure. I would like to give this place a second visit in the hopes that our less than positive experiences were a fluke.

Room Tip: Rosemary is the smallest room, is on the lower level and faces the back of the property. This can be...

This was our third stay at Raford Inn and all was wonderful. The owner/innkeepers, Rita and Dane and their staff have found the perfect balance between being there when you need them (warm welcomes, sad goodbyes, planning your day, making dinner reservations, serving breakfast) and giving you complete privacy when you want it. Their breakfasts are incredible, as is the before dinner wine and cheese on the front porch, both great times to enjoy the other guests.

The Inn is in the middle of 100's of acres of vineyards. It is located about 18 minutes drive from Healdsburg so it's easy to enjoy the country setting and still get to restaurants and wineries in Russian River, Dry Creek, Alexander Valley and Healdsburg. It is also a great location if you are biking through wine country. If you just want to rent a bike, try Wine Country Cycles in Healdsburg. Another fun thing to try in the area is kayaking, rafting, or canoeing the Russian River.

Room Tip: Each room has its own character and size....all described on the website.
