I titled this review surprising simply because, having tasted La Crema that one can find in most good wine stores, we had never tasted their 9 Barrel wines and oh wow were they GREAT! We paid a little extra for the reserve tasting more on a whim than anything else and thats when the experience truly began. The tasting room itself in downtown Healdsburg is lovely, very nicely decorated and everyone was super friendly. When we sat down in the reserve room towards the rear and were greeted by one VERY outgoing, entertaining and knowledgable young lady named April. By ALL means try to be sure this is the person guiding you through your tasting! She is an absolute hoot, could easily be on stage with her dynamic personality and very funny to boot. But to the point of the review, the wine, Barrel 9 are the very limited wines that unfortunately in wine starved, over regulated New Jersey we just can't get due to the ludicrous laws of that state, but that's another story in itself....April gave the complete rundown of every wine we tried and brought each of them totally to life. We purchased 2009 Pinto Noir Barrel 9 and 2009 Chardonnay Barrel 9 and honestly I don't drink a lot of white wine but this may indeed be the best I've ever tasted.
So the long and the short of it, put this place on your list and ONLY taste if April is there to serve you....well maybe still go if she's not there LOL but if she is HOLD ON!
