“wonderful experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2014

My husband and I decided to have dinner with a local said it was her favorite. We did not have a reservation--which you really need to have. This restaurant has an authentic French country feel. They did not have a table but we saw the local friend having dinner at the bar. She might have helped out but we were seated within 15 minutes and had a wonderful meal. Highly recommend but get reservations ahead

“Great New Year's Eve dinner at Bistro Ralph”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2014

We extended our stay in Healdsburg by a night and ended up at Bistro Ralph for New Year's Eve dinner at the bar. The staff was incredibly welcoming and friendly. Since we had no reservation, they sent us across the street for a cocktail and called our mobile when two seats freed up at the bar.

Everything we had was delicious including chicken livers and fried polenta (the balsamic glaze was wonderful), wedge salad (huge lardons and nice tangy dressing), chicken paillard (loads of delicious capers), black cod special (perfect crisp on the fish and nice roasted veggies) and of course the plate of 1,000 fries (they were nice enough to tell us they do half orders since we were already eating so much).

Besides the amazing food, the staff did a great job on their wine recommendations and truly demonstrated they were listening to our preferences. I also enjoy when we told them price wasn't a concern on the wine selection and yet they still picked a very modestly priced pinot which was delicious and didn't automatically try and sell the most expensive bottle on the list (which the list prices are very modest in general).

This place has been around forever and can't believe we have never gone here before since we're in Healdsburg reasonably often. Also, given the great food and friendly staff, surprised it's so far down the list of favorites in Healdsburg on Trip Advisor. We'll definitely be back.

“Best Frites in California!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013

Without checking any reviews we popped in at Bistro Ralph. We did get one positive input from a nearby shopkeeper, but even after strolling by all the other multitude of restaurants around and near the very charming Plaza we found it to be the most inviting one for a casual French inspired lunch.

We were pleasantly surprised at how good it all was, but have to mention the enormous plate of french fries which are very seldom on our list of favorite things. I don't know how the chef does it, but I saw a plate pass by and these are not 'Normal' french fries you will encounter anywhere else. We had to try an order. Delicately small and thin, stacked high, crispy, not soaked in oil, piping hot and oh, so tasty. My wife and I finished off the plate.

Service was quite good and one feels welcomed amongst the other locals in for their lunch, which tells you a lot. We felt the prices were moderate for what one received. I imagine they do well for dinners as well and suggest trying it when in the area.

“Off Night”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2013

Service & food alike was off this last visit. One of our entrees came to the table luke warm & once cut into was discovered to be raw. Server offered to throw it back on the grill after it had been sitting on the table for over 10 minutes - for a $35 entrée the offer should have been to re-fire it. Entrée was thrown into a bussing tub & wasn't returned to the kitchen so they were aware of it's issue. Wasn't our first visit, will it be our last?, not sure.

“Tasty food in a great village setting ”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2013

Driving on our way to Mendocino we stopped at Healdsburg. Healdsburg is a great town with a beautiful town square to stroll around and window shop. We walked around the square and look at a bunch of the menus and picked Bistro Ralph. The lunch menu was reasonably priced for the type of food and the restaurant looked comfortable and romantic. Great choice. We started with two glasses of wine off the menu recommended by the helpful and pleasant waitress. We then shared a wonderful cheese plate with honey, candied walnuts and fig bread. For our main courses I had the Friday special- quail on polenta in an orange sauce and my wife had the mushroom pasta dish in a savory sauce. Both dishes were beautifully presented and delicious. Get the side of roasted brussel sprouts - they come with chunks of pork bacon and a sweet balsamic sauce. A great mix of sweet and savory. Highly recommended.
