“The great location on the square can't make up for being very overpriced and the shabby rooms.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013 via mobile

Wanted to love this hotel but the price was way too expensive for how run-down and shabby the rooms are now. We were going to check out and head to the Farmhouse Inn but the manager switched our room - which helped. He also said he would put a bottle of wine in our room and provide a discount for staying. No wine and his "discount" was $20. Needless to say, we are very disappointed with our stay and will not be back. A pity because the grounds are lovely and the location really is perfect for walking around Healdsburg.

“Disappointing stay at the Hotel Healdsburg”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

My wife and I recently stayed at the Hotel Healdsburg for a few days after Christmas. Had heard a lot about this place, but it didn't really meet our expectations. Important to note that our biggest issue was that the Hotel was way overpriced for what we experienced.

Have to say I agree with an earlier review from November 10th, and was mostly disappointed with our stay.

At the $350/night price point, HH really needs to step up its game.

The Good

Location (but better off staying in Calistoga or Napa and driving up)
Amazingly friendly breakfast staff (included breakfast not at all bad, for what it is)

The Not so good

Staff - friendly, but could use a few days in a Four Seasons training program
Rooms - a bit tired (severely worn mattresses (we changed rooms twice, both were not good)), paper thin walls/floors/ceilings, erratic A/C in the room
Fitness room - dated equipment, too small
Spa - not good, space akin to a locker room; even the spa treatment was weak

All in all, came away disappointed with our stay. Give their sister property, the H2 Hotel, a try instead....it's a lot cheaper, too

Room Tip: Third Floor only. Walls/Floors/Ceilings are paper thin. Try the H2Hotel instead

“Minimalist Maximus”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2013

My fault, it isn't exactly my style. A little too modern-minimal. Well done if you like minimalist. I was drawn to come here because of the warm, plush lobby and Dry Creek Kitchen.
The other pluses...within walking distance to everything on the square and downtown, EXCELLENT Concierge service, color scheme is rich and hip, excellent service from all staff that we encountered, the size of the rooms and public spaces is gracious and furnishings there are plush and inviting. The breakfast was also quite good.
The furnishings in the room are, however, sparse. Very basic, very minimal. I love to travel in comfort...basic things like towel racks and heat in the bathroom or a handle on the heavy sliding door to the bathroom. I broke a finger nail trying to close it. There is also a 3 foot opening in the huge and beautiful glass shower that makes it impossible not to get the bathroom floor soaking wet.
One comfortable chair to sit in and enjoy my coffee...the others were small and meant for a cat to curl up on perhaps? Or a place to put my purse when returning from shopping :)
The chair at the desk is solid wood and weighs 30+ lbs, lovely, but not comfortable as a computer chair.
Basic basic basic, but nice basic.

“Casual modern comfort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2012

My wife and I had a lovely experience at hotel healdsburg. Everything was perfect from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. Great rooms. Great service. Great location. The spa was wonderful. Absolutely the best bed I have ever slept on. So comfortable that we asked about it and purchased the same mattress and down featherbed for our home.

“Hip Casual Comfort in Downtown Healdsburg”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2012

We stayed on the second floor of the hotel on a cool December night. We enjoyed many things about the hotel. They have a wonderful breakfast of fresh real bagels and lox and pastries and fruit with made to order scrambled eggs and waffles. The main area of the hotel has comfortable couches, a fireplace and active bar with nighttime jazz music. A local winemaker was offering samples of wine as one arrived at the hotel. I enjoyed using the fitness center and they had great complimentary papers from the New York Times to local papers. The concierge was very helpful giving us some options to see the sights and take a break from wine tasting which we had done the two days prior. The rooms have a refrigerator stocked with complimentary water, juice, nuts and other snacks. The TV had many stations to choose from unlike many hotels. The rooms are decorated minimalist contemporary style and felt a little sparse but the beds are comfortable and we appreciated the keurig coffeemaker and refrigerator of snacks. One area to improve on is our room was a little noisy early on in the evening as we overlooked a parking lot. There is also only comfortable seating really for one person in the room as the options are a chair and a desk, but the main lobby of the hotel and the rooftop areas are also options. Overall, however, we felt the hotel was comfortable, and a fun place to hang out in the lobby in the evening. We enjoyed being right down in the center of town and able to walk to restaurants and other entertainment at night. It was a warm friendly hotel.
