“Good Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2014

We stopped in on a recommendation of a friend and it was really good Mexican food. It is a bit different, you stand in line, grab a drink and order and pay the gal at the counter. It is seat yourself after that, but they had no trouble keeping orders straight! The staff were all Mexican, so the food tasted, well, Mexican! This is a good thing! The Carne Asada Fajitas were cooked perfectly, no over cooked onions or peppers! And the Carnitas, oh my, melt in your mouth good!

“It's been here forever- clean and consistent”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2014

You are not getting the best the town has to offer but it's reasonably priced,(try Taquaria Guadalajara at the South end of town across from McDonald's) filling and efficient- my biggest complaint with them as with other venues of this sort- FRY YOUR OWN FREAKING CHIPS- they're like fries it's way cheaper to do your own . . . . alas- 32 to 25 years years ago in Healdsburg when Sanchez and his wife fried them in an open pit in the kitchen at ElFaralito- it was an epic period for chip eaters

“Okay food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

This was a spur of the moment choice. It seems more for locals then tourists. As a Californian who loves Mexican food I wasn't overly impressed, but the price was good.

“Great little Mexican place in downtown Healdsburg”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

I do takeout here a lot--very good, authentic Mexican at pretty good prices. Sit down is nice too, they have an attractive interior if you want to eat in. This is a good alternative to the more expensive, upscale, downtown Healdsburg restaurants.

“MexTex in California”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

My partner and I spent a lot of time looking into the "Mexican" Restaurants while visiting Healdsburg Plaza. We were hungry and looking for a "hole-in-the-wall" Mexican cafe and was delighted to find El Sombrero. I didn't mind going to the counter to order. The menu was not large but since we only wanted cheese enchiladas, it was perfect for us. We sat down at a clean table, was brought home cooked unsalted corn chips, salsa, pico. limes and onions along with a drink. We soon had two large plates delivered to our table by a sweet smiling lady. Two cheese enchiladas with good red sauce, "refried" beans, Spanish rice and a small amount of salad (tomatoes and lettuce). We paid about a dollar more for our very reasonably priced plates than we would pay in San Antonio Texas.

If we wanted to pay more and see more color on the walls or be entertained we might have opted for the more pricy Mexican food places.....but we will wait until we go to the Riverwalk in San Antonio for that!
