“Great weekend destination!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012 via mobile

My husband and I enjoy short weekend trips as we live in the east Bay Area and look forward to close destinations in our own backyard. We were recommended to the half moon bay by friends and loved it. The rooms are spacious and clean. We spent the afternoon visiting the shops in old down town. Very cute shops and restaurants. I even stopped and had Bloody Mary at a small bar advertising it as there specialty. It was delicious. For dinner we walked from the Inn to sam's chowder house which is right next door. Make reservations because they have great food and are busy. I ordered the clam chowder oysters on the half shell and steamed lobster all delicious. New England style and excellent. We felt like we were a million miles away from home and it didn't cost us an arm and a leg. We will be back. A definate new destination spot for both of us

We are very glad that not only did your friends recommend us, but that you enjoyed your stay with us as well. We are happy that you enjoyed our property and the city of Half Moon Bay. You gave some really great suggestions for fellow readers on some great spots to check out... Thank you for that. Sam's Chowder House is a wonderful seafood restaurant next door to us, and we also recommend reservations for them as well. We look forward to your next little weekend getaway. Thank you again!

Having stayed here a number of times, on the coast in this area, this is the only place to stay. Direct access to the beach, surfer's beach next door, high quality breakfast daily, wines and snickey-snacks, mmmmm it is a fine value for money and a very relaxing place to stay. There's always a hot jacuzzi, a pool to take a dip, a fire going and great proximity without all the fussiness of the nearby Ritz. The bathroom amenities are Aveda, there is a fridge & hot plate and full water views from your pillow.

Room Tip: Higher floors you are up with the breezes and can watch the surfers better, on ground you can walk o...

We found the beach house by accident about 6 years ago and we are so glad we did. The views are spectacular, the rooms are spacious and the staff is very friendly. Its a great location you can walk to nearby restaurants or take a nice walk/run on the path along the beach. You can spend your day in San Francisco or Santa Cruz and have an easy drive back to the Beach House. Added bonus they have Aveda products!

We are very glad that you happened upon us! Thank you for the review and the kind comments regarding our property and our staff. You are correct that our property is in a great location, not only for restaurants and the beautiful water front, but also because it is a great in-between point for guests who want to travel up to San Francisco or down to Santa Cruz. We are happy you enjoy the complimentary Aveda products we provide in our guest rooms. We hope to see you again!

We appreciate very much the kind review you wrote. We're happy that you were able to experience the wonderful amenities in the hotel. About 75% of our rooms have a water view, and it sounds as if you booked one of our Ocean View Junior Suites. How wonderful that you were in the room to experience the sunset. Half Moon Bay sunsets this time of year are absolutely breath taking. Thank you again, and we hope to see you on your next trip to the area.

Beach House is our destination for our anniversary weekend away every year, located on Highway 1 in Half Moon Bay. It has good facilities, including hot tub and pool. All the rooms we've had have kitchenettes, fireplace and a sliding door open to the balcony or veranda with an ocean view (hotel is not on the beach, it's behind the harbor break, but very pretty landscape and harbor view). Very friendly staff, evening wine and cheese receptions, complimentary breakfast. Next door to a good seafood restaurant, close to Pillar Point Harbor. Good flat walking trails in the area. We love it and will continue to return!

Room Tip: Make sure you have an ocean view, only a few rooms do not!

Was looking for a place for one night outside the city before flying out the next day. This worked perfectly. Only 20 mins from the airport. Room was huge, bathroom also large. Fireplace was nice.. was clean. Wine and cheese reception was enjoyable. Desk clerks very friendly and helpful. Sam's chowder house right next door. Would stay here again, no doubt.

Room Tip: Stay on the waterfront. Non-water front is on the road (Hwy 1) and can be a bit loud.

Spent a whole week here the end of September and must say, it was an incredible opportunity to slow down. Located right on the water, the Beach House was a great respite for the two of us. Close to the BART terminal to ride into the city, plenty of state parks nearby, quaint drives around the area, Half Moon Bay is a slow part of the world, perfect for resetting your internal clocks. The hotel itself is in pristine condition: beautiful grounds, nice pool and hot tub and there is a fundamental breakfast with rolls, bagels and juices each morning. The is a lockable gate leading to the coastal walking/biking path near the poor--to the north, the harbor, to the south, miles of very good and marvelously scenic trail. We had a suite on the south side--read again: side (significant in good time). The room had a working fireplace with a new Duraflame log each day. There was a little kitchenette and we stocked up on Day One at the Safeway a few miles to the south with our favorite goodies. There was a pleasant balcony with a great view and the room overall was spacious and spotless. The south wall was entirely glass and the light in the morning was luscious if we wanted it or dimmed if we chose to close the shades. Sept was still quite pleasant, if not warm, and since there was no ceiling fan or A/C, we resorted to leaving the windows open at night for air circulation. Bad move. Given the side location, we were painfully aware the first night of just how close we were to the highway. And to the trash collection area. And to the parking lot. And to the pool. You get the idea. The breeze would have been amazing but the noise was overwhelming. Advice: Stay on the water side, not the sides of the property--it's worth the extra. Or, buy a cheap box fan that moves air around. There was only a small 6 inch fan with the room, hardly sufficient to meet our needs. And, a minor thing, while TV was hardly a major diversion, the reception was incredibly poor. There was nary a gram of protein in the breakfast selections--all big carb/fat bombs. Yogurts would have been a nice touch. Intriguing to me is that I wrote the management a cordial note, describing there few issues and received no response.
Would we stay here again? Absolutely! By any definition of luxury, this was it. We would stay third floor, water front, center of building and bring in our own breakfast stuff. The staff was cordial but not overdone, eager to advise us when we asked for guidance on activities, dining and area travel. You couldn't ask for a better location and the coastal trail was a wonderful diversion each day. Expensive, yes, but what a treat you'll have!

Thank you for your kind detailed account of your stay. We are glad that you enjoyed, not only the hotel property, but the area of Half Moon Bay, as well. I am sorry you found the room to be too warm. Although we do have a fan in the room, if you need another, the Front Desk is always happy to assist. I also have some great news! Our television reception issue has been recently remedied! We are very happy with this development, and in turn, have more television channels to choose from. Thank you again, and we are happy that you would like to stay with us on your next trip to Half Moon Bay. See you then!
