“Simple Getaway in Half Moon Bay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2011

My husband and I stayed 2 nights in a double deluxe. I chose this one since they were out of the King deluxe rooms and the regular rooms looked too small if you were going to spend most of your time in them. It was a nice room, nothing fancy, but with comfortable beds, very clean and had all natural soaps. The AC/heat was a wall unit, but easily controlled by a digital wall mount. They have 'Dish' for cable which had a nice selection because we ending up spending one afternoon just watching movies since it was raining. The breakfast had a nice selection which included cereal, fruit, bagels, toast, small muffins, danishes, coffee, tea's, oj, apple juice, milk, mini yogurts, hardboiled eggs (chilled), and my favorite 'make your own' waffles! Only thing I noticed was little rust spots on the corner of the shower between the tile and wallpaper in the bathroom. Also, not the hotels fault, but we were on the bottom level and ended up under a group of guys that only wanted to make noise between midnight and 3am which was quite irritating. I would just suggest asking for an upstairs room to avoid this since the ceiling seemed very thin and you can hear every step people take above. Overall, we enjoyed the weekend and would recommend if you dont want to blow all your money on the surrounding hotels at $200+ a night.

Room Tip: Rooms on the top floor recommended.

“Coastside Should Be Named Roadside”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2011

First the positive. The Coastside Inn was clean and the staff was very helpful. Also, the complimentary breadfast was more than adequate. If you want a hotel that has more amenities and is quiet, look elsewhere. The Inn is off Hwy 1 which was very busy. Also, since it is right at the highway, you get motorcyclists, truckers, you name it. There was a period when there was a group of people outside raising a ruckus. Thankfully, the staff took care of the problem.

“Nice Place for what it is.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2011

Room was large, clean, and well maintained. Staff was friendly and courteous. Close to the beach. Free breakfast. This is a nice little motel if you are looking for something basic without all the frills. Great place for a family but not for a couple looking for a romantic getaway.

“Basic but comfortable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2011

This was our dog's "maiden voyage" staying at a hotel & she did great! I think the carpets had just been chemically cleaned though - that's a good thing. However, when I got close to the carpet, I could really smell the chemical cleaner & the carpet still felt a bit damp - I think that threw my dogs nose off but she settled in nicely & made no noise. I wish I could say the same about the other patrons. I know the hotel in certainly not at fault as they can't choose their clientele but there seemed to be a lot of smokers this particular night and they hung out just outside their (our) doors & smoked & talked. That was fine before it got late but I was awakened at 3:30am to the smell of cigarette smoke (our A/C fan may have been pulling in the smell) & conversation outside the room next door. When there's only glass windows between a you & the conversation outside, it only takes talking at normal volume to keep you awake. Fortunately, once they'd finished smoking (20 mins) it got quiet again but it took me awhile to get back to sleep. I like the room set up & the king bed was very comfortable with an excellent heating/cooling system. It's apparent that the hotel has recently made some upgrades.
I'd stay here again as it's just the luck of the draw that you get inconsiderate 'neighbors'.
The breakfast was lacking though - no cut up mellow, just a couple apples & one banana left at 8am (starts at 6:30) The muffins were tasty though. The top half of the bagel that I grabbed was so hard that I tossed it out. The waffles looked great but we didn't have time to wait in line to make them. The lady at check out, who had been pleasant upon check in, was probably preoccupied but lacked the sort of congeniality that you'd really like to be sent off with.
