“OK, But Nothing Great!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2012

We were scheduled to stay here for two nights but checked out at noon after our first night's stay. I did not care for the location of our room at all and when I asked to be changed, the front desk said they were full. We were placed in a room downstairs on the corner, steps away from the parking lot. I found the room to be a bit outdated and there was a fireplace in the room but they charge you an extra $5/fire log!

The property is nice, a heated pool and outdoor fireplace. One of our major complaints was the golf course noise from some tree cutting! It started early in the morning and went on for hours. This was a very loud, annoying noise! I called the front desk and asked if we could leave early and they were very cooperative.

We found the Oceano Hotel & Spa and went there for the remainder of our stay and also booked the same room there for another stay.

Room Tip: Ask to be placed in a room away from the main parking lot! If you book a fireplace room, be prepare...

Thank you for your review. I apologize that your stay was not completely relaxing and peaceful. We will contact the management of the golf course and request that they delay any future landscaping improvements until later in the day.

I would also like to assure you that we will continue to look for ways to exceed our guests' expectations. From the full hot complimentary breakfast that we now offer to concierge services, the Half Moon Bay Lodge wants to be the best value in the charming seaside town of Half Moon Bay.

Sincerely,

Kurt Picillo

We had nine people staying at this facility and we used the boardroom for our workshop. The sales and event staff were great. Very helpful in answering my set-up questions and in meeting our needs for our meeting. The pricing was extremely competitive. The front desk staff was very friendly and efficient. The facility was clean, quiet, well maintained, and relaxing. The boardroom really impressed us for our group of 10 people. It was larger and nicer than I expected. The catering staff was unobtrusive, efficient, and attentive. The food was very good, especially for the package price and the convenience.

I would recommend this facility quite highly for any group of our size or even a bit larger needing to get away and work on those things that you just can't accomplish in the office.

If I were looking for a place to stay for a personal getaway in the HMB area, I would definitely look here first. The rooms are large. Mine had a view of the golf course, lawn, and pool area and it had a fireplace. All of our attendees were please with their room and the facilities.

I had a very good time at the motel. Check in was quick, efficient, and quite friendly. Check out was even quicker. The room was clean and updated. I have stayed here before, and one of the advantages is the fireplaces in the room. Get a fire going and you have a wonderful romantic evening, built right in.

I was in room 230, which includes a bay style window, which overlooks the golf course. Beautiful sunsets.

Room Tip: Get room 230. Has a bay window, overlooking the golf course. When I checked out they said it is the...

Our upstairs room had a balcony with a great view. I was surprised to have a wood-burining fireplace and a frigde. This was an upgrade I had not asked or paid for. The Senior rate was $150 including tax on a Thursday night. Friday and weekends is about $35 more per night. Very comfortable king sized bed with lots of pillows. Breakfast had everything you can think of: scrambled eggs, sausage patties, make your own blueberry waffles, hot and cold cereals, fruit, yogurt, bagels, toast........
They also some some dinner and golf packages but with many great places to eat, we decided not to get locked in at the Moss Bay Distillery for $70 more. But if that is where you want to eat, it's a pretty good deal. You get a certificate for $75 for food and 2 drinks and a movie back at the motel. Our favorite place is the Flying Fish on the north end of town.
You can book online or the front desk is very helpful and seems to be the same rates. There was also a non-refundable advance purchase rate if your plans are firm.

Room Tip: Our room was the farthest possible from the heated outdoor pool and spa. I was too lazy and the eve...

This is definitely a better Best Western than most. It has a charming lobby with friendly staff, but unlike many hotels it also has style. California Mission style, but well done. There is only one elevator, which wasn't convenient to our room, so we hoofed it up a flight of exterior stairs. I wasn't initially happy about stairs, but it turned out to be easy and I needed the exercise to work off all the good food. The room was spacious, clean, well appointed and had a quiet garden view. This hotel is the best deal in town and is an easy drive to the town center. Pretty much everything here is a drive from accomodations.

Room Tip: This hotel is off the highway, so it appears that all the rooms are in quiet locations.

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend getaway and were very pleasantly surprised. The grounds were gorgeous. Plants and flowers were everywhere. We enjoyed the complimentary breakfast also, which included eggs, sausage, waffles, fruit, yogurt, pastries, etc. We ate each morning outside by the fireplace. Our room was large, comfortable, and quiet, with a balcony overlooking a courtyard. We will definitely stay here again when we come back for a visit.
