“Hope the new owners make lots of improvements!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2014

It pains me to write this review as I discussed with the new owner David that I would not, he also asked me not to write a review because he and his partner Jerry, had just taken ownership of the business prior to us staying there. My understanding is the property will be closed for renovation and will also have a name change. David reported they had owned another B&B for 8 years. I wish them the best of luck, they are very nice people.

I am from Half Moon Bay, very well aware of the pumpkin festival issues, and have stayed at other venues during this weekend in the past. That being said, our 3 night stay was really quite disappointing. We were there to volunteer at one of the fundraisers at the festival, but we were also celebrating our anniversary. We were in the most expensive room (the names are going to be changed). I was highly disappointed as it was very outdated in every way, with dirty carpets, moldy windows, no shades to block the lights that were on all night at the business next door, and no amenities. The toiletries provided were open and used. David apologized and said they were changing things, but after all we paid full price and expected what was promised with the room. No mention was made of our anniversary, the previous owner had promised fresh flowers in our room and around the inn, which was a sad bouquet in the dining area downstairs. As I said there are no amenities in the room, such as a coffee maker, glasses or silverware. Also a very odd Jacuzzi tub with a shower overhead, not a real shower per se, no shower curtain and water floods everywhere. It was also awkward to climb in and out of. We were instructed to line the area with towels. Okay who wants to do that on a get away weekend?

There were many, many problems with the other guests which kept us awake and caused some alarm, I did have to call David a few times to make sure he was there and aware. As we were on the second floor we looked over the business next door including many festival visitors who apparently decided not to use the bathroom facilities that were provided, using the back of the business instead to urinate and defecate. I did speak with the owner of the business who was there to clean up his parking lot after the festival, he told me "oh well, it's only once a year."

The garden/sitting area is also very sad and need a great deal of work.

On a positive note, David did take great detail to honor the previous owner's advertisement and plan for our dietary restrictions. The breakfasts were delicious and delivered to our room early our shift for volunteering was earlier than the set breakfast time. We really appreciated that. The location is also good, we didn't mind being "shut in" for the weekend got a lot of walking in as most of the stores/restaurants are located on the other end of Main street.

We did make a list of things that the room needed, and discussed our concerns with the owner. We also realized they were put in a tough spot, taking over right before the biggest event downtown each year. But the truth is we were put in a tough spot, too, having made these reservations many months ago and knowing there was no place else to stay during the festival.

Room Tip: Hard to say, new owners updating rooms
