“Wonderful Stay-cation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013

I picked this BNB because it was reviewed as having fantastic breakfasts, and it did! Old Thyme Inn was very charming, and had a nice garden outside. We stayed in the Oregano room, upstairs. I chose this room because it was a little less expensive and had a clawfoot tub! The bed was very comfortable, and the tub was incredible. Rick and Kathy provide shampoo, lotion and bath salts that make the bath even better. We chose to stay 2 nights to really experience the BNB and relax - a nice getaway in the middle of the week, close to home. Our first breakfast was sweet - fruit salad, decadent hot cocoa/coffee, pumpkin bread, Grand Marnier French toast and chicken apple sausage. And, the following morning's offering were 'savory' - fruit salad, hot cocoa/coffee, muffins, spinach/tomato/feta omelet and bacon. Sooo good! They also provide a wine and cheese hour in the late afternoon.

Rick was a great host, gave us suggestions for places to eat and activities. We were definitely interested in the restaurants, but opted to mostly hang out and relax instead of lots of sightseeing (we both work with wildlife all day, so nice to take a break and be inside!).

I would love to stay here again. It is a bit pricey ($179/night) but I got a bit of a deal - half off the 2nd night. Overall, it was a splurge. But, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!

Room Tip: Oregano room is upstairs, in the back. You hear the garbage truck in the early morning from the hote...

I have been feeling the pressure of just day-to-day and needed a respite. We chanced upon the Old Thyme Inn, in Half Moon Bay and discovered two days of total peace and tranquility. Rick and Kathy made us feel like family right as we arrived. Simple, yet elegant is the best way to describe the décor. Our room had a Jacuzzi to relax and soak in the bath salts, Perfect! We had a gas fireplace to warm the soul and relax the senses. The bed was like floating on air and fluffy robes, just to chill in. Rick, Kathy THANK YOU, for helping us, recharges the batteries and slow down Time.

Room Tip: We loved the first floor front room they call it "Thyme"

This was not our first experience here. It only ever seems to get better each time. Our room was so perfect with a lovely fireplace to bring a cozy ending to each day. The breakfast was delicious and not too heavy. The owners made us feel like we were old friends. I ighly recommend the Old Thyme Inn as a special place to relax and enjoy all that Half Moon Bay has to offer.

This was my first B&B experience. I am use to hotel chains. My fiance and I stayed here over a weekend and it was perfect. The Innkeepers Rick and Kathy were awesome. Got recommendations on where to go and things to do. The room was perfect. I recommend the Thyme room because it has a 2 person whirlpool tub. the homemade breakfasts in the morning were outstanding. I am rather a picky eater and i had a chili and cheese souffle and it was delicious. We will definately be going back often. Also being my first B&B experience.. the bar has been set high.. thank you again Rick and Kathy for a perfect experience.

Room Tip: Rooms are very cozy

We stayed here with my mother and younger brother, we stayed in the chamomile room which was amazingly beautiful, relaxing, small and super comfy. the best feature of this room is the in room vintage tub, it has a hand held shower head and no curtain perfect for couples, my husband loved it and soaked in it every night, the provided sea salt was great and smelled good. there is a stained glass window of a butterfly. the bed was neither soft nor hard it was right in between. My mother and little brother stayed in the oregano room, it is really nice with seven windows, its bigger than the chamomile and very roomy, it also has a vintage tub with a shower head and curtain hanging from the ceiling. the decor is beautiful simple with a modern vintage touch, breakfast was yummy, the coffee was really good we bought some coffee beans to bring home with us as well as a coffee mug they are really cute. The wine and cheese hour was something that we looked forward too during our stay, my mother and husband are wine lovers and it was a time for us to sit enjoy each others company catch up on convos and savor the wine, one time we spent about 5 hours just drinking wine , playing cards, solving a board puzzles(provided by the inn for its guests), laughing, talking, and just enjoying each others company it felt like 1 hour. the service was excellent Rick and Kathy are very friendly and answered all our question about the inn and its history, they gave tips on what to do what to enjoy and recommended things to do like the Filoli Mansion which was gorgeous we were so relaxed and happy with our stay and lucky that no one had reserved our rooms for the next night that we extended our stay for one extra night.

Room Tip: The building is 100+ years old so the walls are somewhat thin, do not recommend this for people with...

My spouse and I went to the Old Thyme Inn to celebrate an anniversary. From my first telephone chat with Rick through the intake by Kathy to the last minute it was relaxing, graceful time. The Inn is on the main street of Half Moon Bay, not on the Ocean but in a perfect position to use as a base to explore the many small communities down the coast. The breakfast was carefully put together (one of us is gluten intolerant--presto, a gluten-free breakfast) and delicious. We were in the back of the Inn and it was quiet and cozy, except for the bird serenade in the morning. One evening we drove off for dinner, the second evening was a stroll down to a local bar for a drink, and then to a great Italian restaurant. The atmosphere is friendly, but the guest can choose between being sociable at the daily 5pm wine and cheese, or just keeping to themselves. We chose the latter. And though the weather was a bit damp, we couldn't help lingering in the herbal garden--just before going in and firing up the gas fireplace and pouring the complimentary sherry.

Room Tip: Given the special occasion and our druthers, we picked the premium room, a room with its own entranc...
