“Good stay with some downsides.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2012

First let me say that we enjoyed our stay for the most part. We had room 14 on the second level and could see the Harbor across Highway 1. It is within walking distance. Our room was clean, which is most important to me. Our bed was just awful, every time you moved the springs would be loud and sound like they were coming out of the mattress. It was obviously OLD. The furniture was well worn and very rickety. I was pleasantly surprised to find we had a little fridge and a microwave. The fridge did freeze EVERYTHING we put in it....but that was not too big of a deal. The bathroom was very spacious and clean and I really loved the touch of shampoo/conditioner/lotion and shower cap, even if I didn't use them. Big, white, fresh towels were appreciated.

One thing we found "cheesy" was that we had no a/c or heat unit in the room. I know its on the coast BUT when you come in late from walking the harbor - it can be COLD. We found a space heater neatly tucked away to use.....I was not comfortable leaving it on all night so it was chilly.

The bay window was very charming and you could open both side of it but the traffic was very loud since we weren't far off of Highway 1. I live in the Sierras so road noise is not something I'm used. Even with them closed you could still hear it. I did look forward to the fog horn in the Harbor, which lulled me to sleep. Maid service was spot on, which I LOVED coming back in from the beach to a clean, made up room.

Staff was SUPER nice and friendly, and check in and out was very quick! The continental breakfast was cereal, danishes and juice and we appreciated that they kept it going until 1030am for us late risers on vacation.

Decent rate but I think I would request a remodeled room and one with central heat and air so you dont catch fire with a space heater. I have attached lots of photos!

Room Tip: Ask for second floor so you can see the Harbor and also a room that has been remodeled.

We booked online and the photos are deceiving the REMODELLED rooms look really nice. We arrived and I was very shocked at how different our room looked than what we paid for, we were given one of the old rooms even though we were charged nearly $200 for the night.
Really disappointed, the room smelt terrible, like an ashtray and I could smell mold in the bathroom. Had to sleep with window open to breathe and the noise from traffic was awful. Definately not a non smoking room and the TV was a relic from the 70's. So make sure you ASK for a REMODELLED room or they will rip you off!!! Will not be staying there again.

we certainly do regret the fact that you had a not so pleasant experience during your stay. our goal is to provide a hospitable, friendly and clean environment to all of our guests, and wo do find your input very valuable towards maintaining such a feel. Our hotel is currently in the process of being completely remodeled and should be complete soon, that's why we do try and make relevant that not all rooms are remodeled on all websites and we also have all the room type pictures available on the reservation page when you make reservation so there won't be any confusion with the reservation. We do deeply apologize that you did not get what you intended We hope that in the future we will get a chance to provide you with the hospitality you deserve.

This motel is in the small town of El Granada, a few miles north of the town of Half Moon Bay. Located across the highway from the Pillar Point Harbor, within walking distance of the harbor with shops & restaurants. We were on the first floor, so our view of the harbor & ocean was severely limited. I think having a second floor room would have solved that.

The room was very clean, modern decor. Comfortable queen sized bed. HUGE flat screen TV, refrigerator & microwave (both at our request), a coffeemaker, large dresser, desk, window seat (needs a cushion/pad!!), and 2 comfy chairs. (a small table would have been nice). Needs a trash receptacle in the bedroom. Bathroom was very nice, very clean. Nice soft towels. Has a hair dryer & iron. Love the modern shower with 3 sprays! There are no towel racks to hang the hand towels & used bath towels.

This was not a very quiet room, as we could hear the creaking of the floor above us as people moved around. The door to the room next door was very creaky so that every time someone came & went it created some noise, also. The highway noise was bothersome, but did die down late at night. The foghorn does go off every 7 seconds (I timed it), but was muffled somewhat with the drapes closed. The WORST noise was at 4 AM one morning when 2 huge semis (18 wheelers) that were parked right outside started up their engines and let them warm up for 15 minutes, right on the street in front of the motel, only a few feet away from our window. That was horrible. The motel should not allow the large trucks to park there and disturb their occupants. The semis could have parked down in the huge harbor parking lot.

We opted not to partake of their nice looking continental breakfast just because we wanted something more substantial plus it would have been difficult to eat off the trays in our room since there was no table in the room. There is a WONDERFUL restaurant next door, Cafe Classique which has GREAT breakfasts, and the coffee is splendid. (try the Rocket Espresso!)

The front desk woman (sorry, didn't get her name) was AWESOME! She came to our room to help us figure out how to use the TV. (we are admittedly techno-phobes). She was very friendly.

Overall, except for a few minor inconveniences and the horrid truck experience, we enjoyed our stay. We would stay there again, but next time request an upstairs room and bring earplugs plus a sleep aid. :-)

Just stayed at this hotel. Good location within walking distance of shops and restaurants. Each room has somewhat of an ocean view. There's a 4 lane street and then shopping and a marina area across from hotel but you can still see ocean. But for the price well worth the location. Even though you are close to the street you cant hear the traffic. Staff was very friendly and helpful and rooms were clean although with older furniture. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for second floor for better view.

The Harbor View Inn overlooks the water and is a very well kept, basic hotel. It is not for honeymoons , but is an excellent choice for a good night sleep at a reasonable rate. It also has a bsic breakfast consisting of packaged pastries, several cereal choices, yogurt, and fruit and juice. It is nothing special but it was a clean and enjoyable place to sleep before starting a strenuous day.

We needed a quick affordable getaway and this was a perfect fit. First off, let me say with the eclipse this was a perfect viewing location with Mother Nature lending a helping hand. We needed nothing more than the fog rolling in and sunglasses. The hotel was clean and staff very helpful if you needed anything. Continental breakfast was plentiful with a good variety. We loved the bay window seat with the ocean view (upstairs) - used it to start the day with breakfast and end the day with adult beverages. My actual goal was Borsini-Burr Gallery in Montara and this location made it a quick drive (7 mi) We actually walked to dinner one night and enjoyed a quick tour of the local shops. While we were there my husband went online and re-booked us for his birthday at the end of the month.

Room Tip: If you want more view, get an upstairs room, but keep in mind I didn't see any elevators so if t...

You cannot find better service than the lady at the Front Desk, she was fantastic. In is not fancy, but we were not in our rooms a lot. The room was a bit old, but very clean and the bed was comfortable, windows opened letting in the wonderful sea air was wonderful, towels and bathroom
were good. A bit of street noise with windows open, but very quiet later. Could walk to everything.
Recommend highly.
