“Top-notch hotel in an amazing setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2013

We spent the night of Thanksgiving at the Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay, which is one of our favorite hotels. We live just about an hour away but love to stay at this hotel because it truly feels like you have disconnected from the world at this amazing place. The hotel facilities and service are top-notch, but it is the setting that can't be beat. The hotel sits on some amazing California coastline and the hotel truly fits in with and blends with surroundings. There is a coastal trail that is one of my favorite walks in the world, and also beach access. There are two large fire pits at the back of the hotel fronting the ocean with plentiful adirondack chairs to just sit back, chill and enjoy the environment. The hotel sells very yummy smores kits for evenings around the fire pits and on weekend evenings offers a hot chocolate bar. There is also an outdoor bar area with smaller fire pits where we enjoyed a relaxing afternoon drink. I did not take in the spa this trip but have had some amazing facials there in the past. Activity-wise, there are two great golf courses, an indoor pool facility, bikes available for use, tennis, etc. Our room in the Fairway cottages was quite roomy, even for a family of 4, with a gas-burning fireplace in the room and a large bathroom. We ate lunch at the Conservatory Lounge and breakfast at Navio, and both meals were top-notch. I can't recommend this hotel enough.

Room Tip: If you are willing to spend the money, you can get a room with an individual fire pit on the terrace...

This is probably one of the best hotels in the entire world with the service that just blows your mind away - the most attentive, personal, and caring that you feel as if you are the guest of honor in this hotel from the very second you step inside. If you ever wondered what five star service really is - this hotel can truly show you that. It is the luxury and perfection that will make you feel speechless.

The location of the hotel is something magical all together - situated right on top of the bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, with waves crushing into the shore and creating the most spectacular scenery imaginable. Don't leave the hotel without a camera! So many opportunities to take amazing photos around the property. The hotel has a lot of walkable trails of different length and difficulty, definitely take at least one of the them to see the most spectacular nature and the majestic Pacific Ocean. I personally don't care about golf, but apparently there is a really nice golf course right next to the hotel with million dollar views while you play.

The room was super cozy and comfy, impeccable in every single way. I definitely suggest not to miss Sunday Brunch in the hotel's main dining room - it is so delicious! Go hungry and take your time to taste everything that they have to offer, you will have a truly gastronomical experience!

Also, don't miss a chance to visit their pool/jacuzzi/sauna area, which is located in a separate building, about 3 minute walk from the hotel. It is a huge pool, olympic size with glass walls and ceiling that just takes your breath away, right next to the ocean. We went late in the evening when it was already dark so we missed the opportunity to see the ocean from the pool, but I can imagine it looks spectacular right before sunset.

In summary, absolutely amazing hotel and worth every single penny. It will make you feel special, relaxed and well taken care of, so splurge and you will not regret it. This type of hotel and service is one of those vacations that just stay in your memory forever because everything - absolutely everything - is so perfect there.

Oh, and they are pet friendly - our maltipoo felt so welcomed and so spoiled :)

The hotel is situated high on a bluff overlooking the majestic Pacific Ocean with views as far as the eye can see...that is, on a clear day! This area of California can get pretty foggy (and cold) so timing is important. Many of the rooms (~42) have private fire pits, which make for a cozy evening when the temperature drops. My ocean-facing room came equipped with a fireplace and was very nice. The staff that I encountered were very service oriented, especially the valet staff, who, unbeknownst to us, placed my husband's car in a covered area during a stormy night to help keep it clean!

The restaurant has floor to ceiling windows that look out onto the 18th hole of the golf course as well as the view of the ocean. The food was very good and that coupled with the relaxing atmosphere, made for a most relaxing breakfast. I recommend taking a walk along the paved walkway and make your way down as far as you can. On a sunny morning, this can't be beat! On the way back to the hotel, take advantage of one of the many seating options and take it all in! You can't help but relax in this setting!

Yup, it's the Ritz. Fabulous Hotel and Fabulous Service. These people know how to please and make you feel very welcome. My wife and I celebrated 45 years of marriage here and each and every hotel employee whom we encountered wished us a happy anniversary! The bed on our anniversary night was decorated in heart shaped rose petals and rose covered pillows to match---unbelievable.

We had great weather and great service. A special dinner at Navio's and fun out on the veranda watching the golfers finish the 18th hole from the old course, with our drinks in hadnd. But be prepared, the cost of food and beverage at the hotel will set you back a mint. A double Gin-N-Tonic cost me $30 and B'fast entrees seemed to start around $22 or so for a Continental B'Fast. Navios for dinner was expensive---but about the same as a 5 star in San Francisco.

A nice alternative for meals and drinks is on-site at Mullins Restaurant at the golf course. So, if you tire of some of the Ritz pricing---more reasonable prices can be found at Mullins. In addition---parking is $45 per day with no alternative and there is also a sporty $25 per day service charge. It's still worth the price of admission to stay at this wonderful resort.

Beautiful rooms, great ocean and golf course views and among the best service staff in the US. Well done, Ritz!

Room Tip: Pay the upgrade for a coastal view---worth the cost. A ground floor room comes with an outdoor fire...

Love the ritz. However, really love the location of the ritz at half moon bay. Service was excellent (of course). The coastal location is beautiful. Outside there are chairs around fire pits overlooking the coast. There is a bar outside during the day and a few places to eat inside. Also a golf course and spa at this location. Rooms are spacious and upgrades include a coastal view and/or fire pit on the terrace of the room. Hope to go back someday!

This property is fabulous! My wife and I spent a night here at the end of our San Fran trip and it was very relaxing. The service was impeccable from check in through check out. We booked club floor access and the club was good; not great (As some of the Ritz are) but good. Service was great in the club but the food wasn't to the standards we've experienced in the past.

The golf looked fantastic but we stayed here for a relaxing day and that is what we experienced. The spa service were top shelf. The grounds are fantastic and the fire pits at night were great. We were fortunate to have good weather for our one full day, spanning two calendar days, so we have nothing to complain about. I'd definitely return to Half Moon Bay!

Room Tip: We had an ocean view room and it was great. The bottom floor rooms had personal fire pits on their...

We stayed here with our two kids in May. The view is beautiful but the room (a suite) left a lot to be desired. It had an old, broken down couch in it that didn't work and was dirty and worn. Rooms and service don't seem to be on par with other hotels in this price range.
