A sophisticated inn in the Russian River wine country. Lovely, thoughful rooms - good sized-fireplace in some for those damp, foggy coastal California nights. Great restaurant. Only downside is that the restaurant is closed on Sunday and Monday for dinner and dining in Guernville is limited.

The Applewood Inn is so comfortable and quiet, in the Redwoods.
Attention to detail in the room is amazing, with pressed antique linen tablecloth, premium sheets and pilows, fireplace and comfortable furniture. There was a double shower in a huge bathroom, plush robes and oversized bath towels.

The rooms are spottlessly clean, as is the rest of the Inn. You feel like you are in your own private villa.
The deck outside the room was private and had it's own fountain, where I could sit in a lounge chair in the sun and relax, while looking at the redwood trees.
The staff can not do enough for you. The best service you will ever get anywhere. They are so friendly.

I feel so welcome at the Applewood Inn. I can't wait to return.

Applewood Inn is food for the soul - from the peaceful countryside location to the charming rooms, wonderful food and delightful hosts. We came searching for a special getaway and found it here, complete with subtle pampering and casual yet gourmet dining. No doubt it will be a regular retreat for us.

“Great Small Wedding Location!”

We have been saving for years to have the perfect wedding. We wanted our family and close friends to be with us in a beautiful private setting. It was also my in-laws 50th wedding anniversary. So of course everything had to be perfect. The Applewood supplied everything we could have wanted. We reserved almost the entire Inn. Every room was uniquely decorated, quite large and comfortable. Even though you can see some houses on the hillside, the Inn is very secluded and peaceful, It reminds me of the countryside in northern Italy.
We had the wedding in the redwood grove behind the Inn and a small reception in the courtyard with live guitar music, hors d'ouvres and champagne. Later, we had the entire restaurant to ourselves for a fabulous dinner. A few of the guests are in the hospitaltiy industry and they marvelled at how excellent the food was presented and tasted. Each guest chose their own three course dinner the week before from a list of six options for each course. Not one thing was "standard catering fare". The Inn staff were easy to work with; our personalities just seemed to click with everyone, from the owners & Gwynne the manager to the wait staff. They offered suggestions on florists & wedding cakes which turned out perfectly. It is a casual place, slightly larger than the average B&B, which was perfect for our 25 guests. The restaurant has a seasonal menu that makes use of local suppliers and their own kitchen garden. For the rest of the weekend, the Inn was home base to explore wineries and see the Russian River Valley. The owner even got a group of us in to visit a friend's vineyard and brought in another winemaker for a private tasting. I don't know how the weekend could have been better! I hope to spend many anniversaries at the Applewood Inn.

“fantastic stay!”

Applewood Inn

Jul 16, 2006

We just returned from a three night stay at the Applewood Inn. We loved every minute. We found Gwen and Jimmy to be excellent hosts. They were both very friendly, informative and helpful, without ever being too much so.
When we first arrived, we were afraid we'd regret not staying closer to Healdsburg. We were so wrong. The beauty and comfort of the Inn more than makes up for the longish (20-25 minute) drive at the end of the day.
Gwen gave us a small tour of the inn. We stayed in one of the newer buildings, and it was fantastic. You'd never know the building aren't all original. She showed us the main house, where freshly baked cookies were waiting. The pool was very nice, although we didn't use it. When went by there, there was a cycling couple relaxing, who'd requested some fresh fruit to snack on. Gwen had the kitchen provide a fruit platter that was GORGEOUS. I'm not sure, but I'll bet it was given to them at no charge.
Our room was great - it felt like home. Maybe not ours, but someone's. Beautiful antique bed, fireplace, reading lamps, and a very nice bathroom. We had a small back patio, and a front porch area all to ourselves. The bed was literally the most comfortable I've ever slept in. The matress not too firm or too soft. The linens out of this world. Pillows perfect. And I don't know what they use to launder the linens, but they smelled like a warm summer day. My husband definitely had a hard time getting me going in the morning.
Breakfast was very good. yes, only one option, but the preparation is good and the attention to detail tremendous. One morning we were served granola with fruit and yogurt as a starter. It was garnished with mint, which my husband doesn't care for, so he really didn't eat his. When Jimmy came by he asked if it was OK, and my husband explained that he doesn't like mint...no big deal, we knew a good breakfast was on the way. Two minutes later, our server brought out a fresh bowl, sans the mint...saying Jimmy'd ask him to bring it out. Now that's what I call service.
There were only two downfalls - one minor and one a little less minor. When my husband went to check out, he went into the office, and their resident bird was out of his/her cage and flying around. Apparently it kind of flew at him, and it freaked out my husband. No big deal, but he didn't like it very much. I don't think I'd have been bothered. Other item, a little less minor, is that the shower head was really lacking. In such a nice place, I do expect a fantastic shower experience. Oh, but there were all Aveda products stocked, which was very nice.
We will return to the Applewood Inn next time we're in the area. This is a great spot for couples...don't know if I'd go here with friends...
Oh, one more thing. Guerneville is a very cute little town. I'm assuming the Deliverance comment made by another reviewer is due to the fact that the town is very gay/lesbian friendly. If that bothers you, that this is probably not the area for you to choose. Otherwise, I can't see why anyone would object to staying in this area.
Enjoy!!!
