“Awesome views!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2014 via mobile

Positives: ocean view at its best, large spacious room, private balconies, close to everything we wanted to do, jacuzzi tub, comfy bed. Negatives: hard to ignore the people walking around on the floor above, could use some deep cleaning on deck, new chairs needed on deck too. Gualala is an awesome location and this is a hotel meant to create a comfortable stay. The room was clean, spacious and we did want the jacuzzi tub! The young lady who checked us in was friendly and helpful. We stayed in Denmark and loved the ocean and river view that could be viewed from everywhere but the toilet! The place is clean, though it is not super fancy. You can request that the maids leave you amenities in a basket at your front door if you don't want them coming in when you stay more than one night. We liked that option! There is a small coffee maker, microwave, and refrigerator in the room as well as an extra wet bar sink. Good coffee and pretty simple continental breakfast in the morning. Nothing fancy just Costco muffins and bagels. Still nice that it was provided. The only flaw in staying in a lower room is if you are a light sleeper like me you may be bothered by the noise from the room above. I could hear the people above walking and they were up at 630am! We kayaked the Gualala River I highly recommend doing that. We also did the hike at the local park just south of the hotel. We got pizza right across the street and walked up to Trink's for some great coffee and cookies!

In all fairness, the front desk is super friendly and very helpful. However, the photos of the rooms are a bit deceiving. The furniture is worn and don't expect to find a beach to relax on. If you are looking for a room to sit in where you can hear the ocean then you may be pleased here.

Our second stay at Breaker's Inn was as good as last year. Terrific setting in low-key Gualala. Rooms have superb views of the river, beach/cliffs and ocean. Comfortable, fairly-priced rooms and friendly staff. We were in Connecticut, tough to beat the sunset from the deck. Surf market, next door, is surprisingly well stocked with a capable crew. We did not try the restaurant. Will be back

Room Tip: I go for the top floor. My wife likes the lower floor, which has a wider perspective, and invites m...

After a long, winding drive up Highway 1, sometimes made difficult by fog, you arrive at the town of Gualala, a picturesque location where the Gualala River meets the Pacific Ocean. The Breakers Inn is one of the first things you see on the left. The rooms are spacious, with fireplaces, bars, refrigerators, microwaves, comfortable beds, and a porch looking out at the ocean. The wide windows also provide a celestial parade of stars at night. There are several restaurants nearby plus a supermarket next door. It is the epitome of a romantic "getaway".

Room Tip: The rooms are named for states and countries...try your favorite place or where your gamily came fro...

Our one night stay in Gualala was terrific because we had such a cool view of the ocean right from our room. We stayed in the "Normandy" room. It had a cool balcony where we sat and sipped our scotch before dinner. We kept our windows open all night to listen to the waves. I wish I had that kind of view from my room all the time!

This is a reasonably priced place to stay where all rooms face the ocean and have private decks. The seagulls will share the railings with you. We have stayed there many times and our rooms are always interesting and comfortable. The rooms are decorated as various states in the USA. Each room has a fireplace with a Presto log supplied each day. Some of the beds are quite high, if that causes a problem, you will need to let them know. Our favorite room is the "Pennsylvania" room which has a low bed and is level coming in from the parking lot. That room also has a spa in the tub and the bathroom and shower are accessible. The bathroom is not new but very large. The Inn is built in three levels with decks set back on each level. If you stay at Breakers Inn, a fine place to dine is St. Orres, which is about five miles north of town. It's quite expensive, but a lovely place to be for a special dinner. My only problem is that AT&T cell phones will not work on that area of the coast, but there are phones in the rooms and if you drive a few miles north you can probably use your phone. We have eaten at the Gualala (pronounced Walala by the natives)
Inn, but it was closed when we were recently on the coast in late August 2013. Breakers Inn does not provide breakfast but provides coffee in the rooms. There is a restaurant on the premises which I have not tried.

Room Tip: Almost all the rooms have decks and ocean views. There are just a few rooms (less expensive) without...
