“OK place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2012

We were looking for a place closer to the park. There aren't many choices if you go with small kids. This one was OK with kids, so We stayed here! The reviews we read were really disappointing...but the hotel wasn't tht bad. It was clean. But there were some maintenance problems..The floor creaks...kindda spooky at night! Adjusting the shower to the right temperature was tricky. The heater( temp. Were in 50s tht day) was working fine, but cover kept on falling down.the TV didn't had many channels, we didn't had problem with tht! It was good to keep kids away from it! The breakfast included cereal, bread, donuts, canned fruits etc. The most annoying part was the Internet. At the time of online reservation it said 'free wi-fi', but the front desk lady was asking $5 per day! After an argument we got a free wifi, which was ' limited to light surfing only'! The location is really good. There is a river in the back of the motel, tht gives the real peaceful effect. We spent the evening we checked-in on the river bank. So overall stay was good!

$25 cancellation policy - even if you cancel within 5 minutes of your initial reservation !!! Unless you know absolutely for sure that you will be able to keep your reservation...don't use the internet to reserve at this Inn. AND ...Although the address is "Groveland, Ca", the inn is 13 miles away from the sights and sounds of Charming Groveland (not the walking distance one hopes for).

2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2011

I entered the address of the place in my GPS, but it was many miles off up the road, so I got lost at first when trying to find the place. I read the reviews on Hotels.com which did not seem that bad. In hindsight I wish I would have found a place to stay for visiting Yosemite much earlier, and gotten a place inside the park instead (even if that would have been more expensive, I think the value for money would be better).
The room was a bit run-down with an old TV, some non-functioning lamps (or light switches), and a squeaky floor. Some of the floor space was occupied by a big collapsible extra bed that I had no use for. The bathroom was pretty basic with the only air-conditioning unit (the bedroom had a heater). I tested that the A/C was working, but did not use it as the temperature in October was not high enough to justify the noise. The bathroom towels were clean. The bed was OK, with clean sheets. The worst thing was the curtains and the general cleanliness. There were enough cob-webs in the room (with live spiders) to get me in mood for Halloween, even though it was three weeks away :-)
Didn't talk much with the management, but I was told me there was no breakfast, and gave me a map with directions to Buck Meadows (5 min away) and Groveland (20 min away) where you could get some food (closed at 9pm). Had to pay $5 for WiFi access, but it only worked for the the first 10 minutes.
Other than that, the place was very quiet, even though there must have been several other guests staying there based on the number of cars parked outside, so to sleep was not a problem.

No breakfast off-season (end of October). $5 for (pretty flaky) Internet access. Service was rude — the manager obviously would rather hang around watching TV (in a building of his own) than greet patrons. The room was tiny and the cleaning wasn't done, but I got upgraded to "family" suite so I cannot really complain about that one :-P — This goodwill gesture being the only thing that redeems this review from 1 star "terrible." If you can book your accommodation on time (which I couldn't), try Lillaskog Lodge next door: same (ridiculous) price range, but the ambience and the level of service and friendliness are upstairs of the Riverside Inn by several elevator buttons.

Room Tip: The small rooms really are as bad as the other reviewers reported. Try the family suite if you can s...

This was the worst room we had on our entire vacation and we paid more than almost any other location. The room was very small, not clean, the tv was tiny and could only be seen at an angle on the bed. There was no complimentary breakfast, not even coffee, and the last straw was being asked to pay extra for wi-fi service. The person behind the counter was less than friendly and had little interest in our concerns. Drive a few extra miles beyond the park and find another place to stay.

We booked it before we read the reviews and went in with a open mind. If you are looking for a 5 star, this is not it but it was clean and comfortable. The service was fine the breakfast was a little lacking cereal & muffins but it was ok. Only 11 mile from entrance to Yosemite. There is a fee if you do not do dishes I dont know if that included your coffee cup but we washed ours as so not to pay the fee. We stayed in rooms 26 & 28 which are king deluxe rooms over looking the river and it was like we had our own deck.

Room Tip: Pick a river view room

but maybe that would scare people away. We stayed in room 14 in the cabin closest to the road. Bathroom was scary. Sink had huge chips and rust spots. Water smells like sulfur. No window or vent in bathroom. The place looks like it was last remodeled in 1961. Walls are thin. Door hinges squeaked like a haunted house. They did not even empty the trash after the first night. All they did was make the bed and supply very old coffee packs. No cell phone service so no GPS so we could not find it. Had to call from the Pizza Factory in Groveland. Thanks P.F.!!!! The inn is NOT in Groveland. It is close to Buck Meadows which is between the park and Groveland. The river is nice and the grounds are OK. If not for the proximity to the park, would not stay here. They should put an info binder in the room since there is no phone. Not worth the $100 per night we paid but will do in a pinch.

Room Tip: avoid #14. Ask for the wi-fi passcode when you check in. Don't rely on your cell phone's gps...
