We loved the extremely helpful receptionist. Friendly and willing to provide us with cups of tea on demand a definite plus. Sadly the dining room was still closed but if the sample of chocolate and orange ganache cake was a taste of things to come, I can see the dinner menu being top notch.
The room was fairly small and lacked storage as did the bathroom, but was expected from such an old building. All the staff and owners are to be commended on exceptional service, and with an upgrade on the storage issues this place is great! Groveland is an extremely attractive small town just outside the boundaries of the park but well place for the park and gold country. Would come again!

Our room was fairly small ( not a lot of room either side of the bed) but very cosy and decorated in keeping with the building, a huge claw foot bath that was wonderful after a long day of driving. Good value breakfast, eggs made to order. Helpful and friendly staff. A perfect spot to base yourself when exploring these parts. Loved the Mexican restaurant next door!

The hotel is a typical old American guesthouse. Great atmosphere and really good breakfast. The parkinglot at the back is spacious.
Location is good, near the Iron door saloon at the mainstreet of Groveland.

Great location, friendly staff and the best buffet breakfast I have had in a hotel in years. Our room #14, one of the more expensive, was ...meh just ok. Large but with spartan furnishings. Its windows overlook the mobile homes out back. The bathroom also large but with minimal counter or shelf space. The sink is also plumbed in reverse so the hot water comes out of the righthand valve. Tile grout looked like it could use a good scrubbing. I thought the value was lacking for a Ben Franklin and a half

Excellent room and service, authentic historic building and exceptional value for money. We were pleased that our room had a bath, but it's a pity the bath is in the bedroom rather than in the bathroom. The staff helped us to find a local tyre fitter when we had a flat tyre. We stayed in three different hotels in our Sierra visit - this was our favourite and it was half the price of the others

Hi all,

This is long over due but I just wanted to commend Hotel Charlotte on their fantastic service and rustic vibe. My girlfriend and I came across a Living Social deal for a two night stay and afterward all I can say is that we were sad to leave and will be returning there again.

It is truly a Mom and Pop shop and they know what they're doing. Upon checking in you can see the rustic entry way adorned with some antique furniture and a piano that guests can play if they are trained. The Bathrooms were what really stood out to me, very unique and large with a massive Clawfoot Iron Tub/Shower that looks old but was quite modern on top of a pretty wood flooring.

The Rooms were terrific and we had all the room we needed, with quilts that any person/s seeking a throw back but comfortable vibe would be happy with. Breakfast was provided in the mornings including some GREAT coffee.

Groveland, where it is located is not too far from the entrance to Yosemite, (Probably about 20-25 mins) and the restaurant within the hotel was definitely the best that we had while there. The staff are great references for what ever activities you may want to partake in around the area and put us in the right direction each day in terms of hikes and other outdoor stuff.

The final thing Ill add is that if you're thinking about places to stay and you're young, do not pass over The Charlette! We are 22 and it was the perfect get-a-way. There's also a large old school saloon across the street if you're looking for a fun place to drink at night.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this hotel and the lovely town of Groveland during our brief stay. We drove from Vancouver BC down to Yosemite and back for New Years, with stops in Portland, Mt. Shasta, Napa, and Lake Tahoe, and our stay in Groveland was definitely one of the highlights! While we camped in Yosemite for New Years Eve, we made a stop in Groveland the night before heading into the park. The rooms and hotel were steeped in history, but also felt clean and comfortable. The breakfast was sufficient, and felt like a bonus. The town itself, while tiny, has a great old frontier town vibe, including the Iron Horse pub which claims to be first pub to have opened in California. Whenever we head back to Yosemite, we will definitely make a point to stop in to Hotel Charlotte.
