“Great stopping point for Yosemite day trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2011

We spent one night at Hotel Charlotte for a hiking trip in Yosemite. The staff there was so friendly. We got in late and they kept the restaurant open for us, which was SO appreciated. We were starving from hiking all day, and a big homemade meal hit the spot. Front desk, restaurant staff - everyone was friendly. The town of Groveland is also incredibly charming. Small - yes, but packed with loads of small town cuteness. Our room wasn't big, but we weren't expecting it to be. It had a queen size bed, vanity, and a private bath with a claw foot tub. The best part of the room was the hot water in the shower and the great shower pressure! We would definitely stop here again.

Good because the staff are all so friendly and helpful and the look and atmosphere of this small hotel is very reminiscent of the "Gold Fever" days. One's imagination could run riot! Dinner at the restaurant was very good and the breakfast which is included in the price had something for all tastes. Everyone was very accommodating and the hotel is handy for Yosemite and Groveland is an interesting little town.
Bad because the rooms are so small and badly provisioned. The proverbial cat would have swung right through the window. Nowhere to hang anything. Free standing air-conditioning unit which doubled as a sloping nightstand and didn't work. Only one over-the-bed light. Bathroom very small and uninviting with nowhere to put anything. When they say the rooms are "basic" this is truly so. However, we did not think the rates reflected this. For us the bad overcame the good and we would give it a miss if in the area again.

We stayed for 2 nights in room 9.
The staff were really friendly and helpful and we had a good breakfast and great dinner.
The room wasn't huge, and the shower was quite noisy, but would definitely recommend it as a base for Yosemite.
It took just 30 mins to reach the park entrance, and it was much cheaper to buy gas around Groveland.
The only suggestion I would make for improvement is to include hot chocolate in the breakfast drinks, we don't all drink tea or coffee :-)

We stayed for one night on our way to Yosemite. While our room was small it was clean and comfortable. The staff were lovely and the free breakfast was a nice touch. The staff were even nice enough to send our postcards which helped us out as we were stretched for time. I would stay again as the town was lovely and quiet and a nice place to stay on the way.

We stayed here for one night en route to Yosemite and found the staff to be quite friendly and accommodating. The location is very central being right on the main street. The hotel itself is more of a dated old hotel....our rooms got quite hot at night (thus the large, portable in the room AC unit, i guess) and the decor and linens, etc. is older B&B style stuff.

My guess is the property is "Very Good" among Groveland options, but in the world of lodging it is "Average" at best.

Historic hotel and quite appealing but lacking certain amenities. The employees are very nice and welcoming. Although our room was clean and pleasant, the a/c (definitely needed) is just partially controlled by the guest. There is another unit run by the hotel that leaves you freezing or too hot. The TV is very difficult to figure out and we heard motel employees going to other rooms to help get them working. Really?? The dining room is just OK as we had dinner there but the breakfast is 'fast food' quality fare. Not very good. The parking area is tight and a bit nerve wracking when leaving a nice car there. The area is behind another business and also very close to a self car wash establishment where anyone could be present without raising concern. The better parking spots are few and far between with shedding trees causing a real mess as well this time of year. This is no concern if renting a car but we would be re-miss in not mentioning this if you bring a nice car of your own on vacation. Can we recommend this establishment with a mix of good points and bad points?? Tough call but we would suggest trying somewhere else first. It isn't a bad stay but not great either.

We stayed here en route from San Francisco to Death Valley, as a base for a couple of days exploring Yosemite.

The hotel is an old property that we thought would be full of charm. We stayed in Room 12, advertised as having a 'modern feel' and an 'open layout bath where the spa tub is in the room'. Unfortunately what the website doesn't say is that the toilet is also in the room, with no door between the toilet and the bed which we were really quite uncomfortable with.

We didn't think that the room had a 'modern feel' either; the decor wasn't to our taste, but more importantly it looked like it had had better days and there was a hole in the wall near the bath. We thought the hotel was quite expensive, though this does appear to be a standard feature of hotels near to Yosemite.

On the other hand, the room was of a fairly good size, breakfast was generous and tasty and the service was extremely friendly. It was good that the hotel provided free parking and computers for use by guests.

Definitely avoid room 12.
