I was recently in Groveland and had the opportunity to dine at the Groveland Hotel.

The food was terrrific - the breakfast was outstanding - guests get to choose from menu choices of full breakfasts and there is a buffet set up for all the light stuff as well. Well, it's sorta self-serve - they actually toast your bread for you!

For lunch, we had a selection of pizzas that were unexpectedly gourmet - the freshly grated Parmesan cheese was an added bonus. It was really really good - way way way more than your average pizza.

Based on the dining experience, I hope to get the opportunity to stay there next time I'm in the area.

the Groveland Hotel is simply a wonderful place to stay. it is quaint and homey.... the staff is very attentive to your needs. we have pets and when we stayed at the Groveland Hotel they not only accept pets but provide eating bowls and blankets for our dogs....
the beds are the most comfortable beds i have EVER experienced in any hotel, inn, or B&B i've stayed at bar none..
and the early 20th century charm of the rooms are cozy and charming... my wife and i have stayed there twice now while visiting Yosemite... and i guarantee we will stay there from now on when in the groveland area....

i would recommend the Groveland Hotel to anyone looking for a great place for a night or a weekend get-away......

We have stayed here twice, and both times were pleasant. The first stay (2007)was Charlies Room and while it was kinda noisy at night, as it was close to outdoor entertainment, it was very cozy and comfortable.
The second stay (2008)was pleasant, however the lights from the hallways shined through the crack in our door and it was hard to fall asleep. The floor creeks and you can hear your neighbor's water running, but it feels like you are staying at grandma's...we kinda expected it.
We had a larger room this time and it was cozy, too. We brought our dogs and they seemed comfortable, too. The beds are very comfortable.
The hallway (upstairs) is cluttered with misc. furniture and stuff, both times we stayed there. They should remove it, as it takes away from the first impression.
The morning buffet was fine, but the bacon and country potatoes weren't very good. The dinner menu was too expensive and we ate in town at the pizza parlor and the bar/grill next door for half the price.
Overall, this hotel feels more like my great grandmother's house and it's cozy. Friendly staff. A nice place to sleep for a night, I wouldn't stay here for a week long trip, though.

“Romantic Wedding Getaway”

We stayed at the Groveland for several days to attend our friends wedding. The wedding was held at the hotel and the friends and family filled up all but 3 of the 18 rooms. The outdoor patios, dining room and upstairs conference room provided more than ample space for everyone to stretch their legs.

The Groveland is a cozy hotel, we felt so at home it didn't feel like a hotel. It was like being transported back to a simpler time. The food was sublime rivaling a big city's finest offerings. They have a phenomenal wine list that is more of a large novel than a list. The last three pages are all ports and sherries. The complementary innkeepers breakfast featured, among other things, the best omlette I have ever had. The owner's Peggy and Grover were warm and accomodating. You could really feel the love and care they put into the place. It was a singularly relaxing getaway. We will be back, and soon.

“Pet smells”

The Groveland Hotel

Mar 3, 2008

Don’t stay here! This is a pet friendly hotel, which is fine, but the minimum I expect for $275 a night is a clean bed. When we checked into the hotel Saturday for a two-night stay 2/16-17/2008, their most expensive room just didn’t smell right. My wife and I decide on a nap, I couldn’t sleep because something was wrong. An hour later we got up to change our cloths for a late lunch. When I pulled my nice new sweeter and long sleeve white shirt off over me head it was obvious that I had been lying in pet urine, even my pants smelled, I had to shower. I told an employee, and the bedding was changed. I’m sure the carpet and furniture were just as bad, the room smelled. Within the $275 charge is a hot breakfast between 8 – 10 am. The second morning we were in the restaurant at 8:15 ready to eat and check out, but the cook didn’t show up until 9:00. We had to leave to return the rental car to Columbia at 10:00, no breakfast. At check out I reminded them of our ordeal, I was offered a very pitiful discount; there were people in the lobby so I didn’t feel like being difficult, I called after I returned home. I have called four times and spoke with various employees and owners. Their response was that they will look into it and call me back. It has been more than two weeks now and no one has called or credited my account. Unless you don’t mind lying in urine and not getting what you paid for you should avoid this place and stay elsewhere!
