“Not for nature lovers...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2012

This campground is near Pyramid Lake. That meant lots of loud trucks with boats. Why do they have to play the music so loudly? Not everyone enjoys all those horns blowing loudly in the music. The place has little to no shade and gets windy from time to time. You can go fishing and swimming at the lake for free if you are a camper, otherwise they charge $11 and up depending on the activity you want to do. Not much scenery to look at, except for cars moving on the nearby freeway. Drink lots of water and stay hydrated. All those winds and strong sun will dry you up very fast. Frequent patrol of the rangers make relaxing a little difficult as well. Unless you are boating, I don't recommend this place.

Came on a weekend to meet up with some family, halfway between Santa Barbra and San Diego. We traveled with 6 adults and 9 children ages 16, 12, 7, 7, 5, 4, 4, 2, 1. All the kids seemed to have a blast climbing up the steep mountains. We always travel with sand toys even when away from the beach, and it was perect for dirt play. We came on a windy weekend, 30 to 40 mile per hour winds on the frist night only, which made for an interesting night in tents. We did some kite flying in an open field on the second calmer day. This place has running water and flush toilets. There is little shade due to wild fires a while back, but they have planted some new trees so give it a few yars and there should be some great shade trees. The campground was pretty empty when we were there and the camp hosts were great! We did drive over to the nearby Pyramid lake to do some splashing around, but it was closed due to a fishing tournament, but we also did some fishing. We did not catch anything but the kids had fun! Kids under 15 do not need a fishing license, but adults do and you need get one in town before going to the lake. They do sell bait there. There were black bear warnings in the area, but we did not see any. Good tent sites and rv sites. Fun getaway! Remember it's what you make it!
