A great stay at the Courtyard by Marriott. We stayed Friday night 9/7/12, so I guess the hotel had only been open about two weeks. It is easy to get to from Hwy 101, just take the Storke Rd/Glen Annie Exit & go West on Storke Rd. past Hollister Ave & it will be on your right. It is West of The Marketplace shopping center which has Costco in it. We had a 2 queen bed room & it was comfortable. The doors to the hallway are really, really noisy & I find this to be a common problem (not particular to this hotel). The doors use those cool new scanners where you just hold your room key up to the door & you don't have to slide it in. This new Courtyard uses the "bistro" style restaurant which has Starbucks coffee drinks, a full bar, and light meals. I miss the breakfast buffet that Courtyard used to offer. I think with the Bistro they are able to really downsize the hotels without actually having a restaurant kitchen at all. The rooms are nice but again they are a little downsized as Marriott is now using smaller furniture that looks like an IKEA wall unit. I prefer the look of the older Marriotts that had real furniture and a real restaurant. However this one has a very nice tub/shower combo, and a nice sized bathroom. The central courtyard area with pool looked nice from our hotel window above. We were on the 2nd floor as we are Gold members of marriott rewards. The front desk staff were helpful, the staff in the "bistro" were still learning how to prepare the light meals. I ordered a burger and fries for my son. The menu doesn't say this, but the burger comes with fries. They serve free coffee in the morning in the lobby until 10 am. You can also buy the special Starbucks coffee drinks anytime in the bistro. There are two computer stations just to print boarding passes in the hallway near the elevator by the lobby, and there is also an additional computer business center for guests as well. We checked in after 9 pm so we didn't have time to try the exercise center but it looked like a pretty good one. Highly recommended. I like how they put the hearing impaired rooms across from the elevators because those guests won't hear the elevator noise. Good planning on their part. Give it a try, I think you will enjoy your stay. Housekeeping staff need additional training & supervision to make sure they are doing everything they should (like dumping used coffee grounds, cleaning bathroom doors when dirty, etc. ) Hopefully this will happen as it is a new hotel. Overall a good stay and we will be going back. It has been a long time waiting for any type of Marriott hotel in the SB area, so I think it will be very popular.
