“One of the best Marriott Courtyards”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

Having been on the road for 16 years, I want to go to my room after traveling. The experience at the front desk is great and the hotel is brand new, spacious and well-designed with a beautifully landscaped pool with jaccuzi, fire place and a generous putting green. The room is modern and big and housekeeping is excellent. Short walk to shopping and restaurants and a short drive to UCSB, airport and Amtrak. Free parking and a nice fitness center. The rate is not low but for classy accommodation in the Goleta/Santa Barbara area, this place is good value for your money.

Finally Marriott has something in the Santa Barbara area. Staff is very friendly and helpful. We stayed here the first weekend it was open and it was very convenient for dropping kids off at college. Rates are a little high for a hotel that is not too close to the beach or downtown, but overall a nice experience.

What a nice surprise! This brand new hotel (5 minutes from Isla Vista & UCSB) is excellent in every way - bright, cathedral-ceiling lobby with cafe, large screen TV, two fireplaces, a "Go Board" which is a wall-mounted oversized Ipad, a designated boarding pass center and additional computers with printers. The design team on this property really nailed it! The technology areas combined with the comfy, warm furnishings and lobby decor are perfect for any traveler -whether business or vacation.

Rooms are spacious, very clean and nice views of the mountains or pool/courtyard. Besides a pool and jacuzzi, the property also has a cleverly designed miniature golf course in the middle! The hotel encourages guests to hang out at night with two outdoor fire tables to lounge around with your favorite cocktail from the 5 to 7pm happy hour!

Hotel staff is very friendly and professional. The only thing missing was that the front desk agents should inform guests at arrival of the complimentary items - a shuttle van that goes in a 5 mile radius of the hotel, free bikes and golf clubs. Because rooms are on the pricey side, any amenities you can offer at no cost can really enhance a guest's experience.

We look forward to returning!

Compared to the Marriott Buellton just 30 minutes away, this hotel is way overpriced. The positives are being fresh and clean, and nice linens and bedding and a very friendly and helpful staff. The negatives are driving up to check in about 7:30PM and the whole outdoor area has no lights on, despite being very dark outside, having no coffee or cups in the room, no pen or tablet on the desk, and a counter to order breakfast from. Their reply to the dark exterior was not adequate..."We are on timers." Next time, we'll drive the extra miles to Buellton.

A great stay at the Courtyard by Marriott. We stayed Friday night 9/7/12, so I guess the hotel had only been open about two weeks. It is easy to get to from Hwy 101, just take the Storke Rd/Glen Annie Exit & go West on Storke Rd. past Hollister Ave & it will be on your right. It is West of The Marketplace shopping center which has Costco in it. We had a 2 queen bed room & it was comfortable. The doors to the hallway are really, really noisy & I find this to be a common problem (not particular to this hotel). The doors use those cool new scanners where you just hold your room key up to the door & you don't have to slide it in. This new Courtyard uses the "bistro" style restaurant which has Starbucks coffee drinks, a full bar, and light meals. I miss the breakfast buffet that Courtyard used to offer. I think with the Bistro they are able to really downsize the hotels without actually having a restaurant kitchen at all. The rooms are nice but again they are a little downsized as Marriott is now using smaller furniture that looks like an IKEA wall unit. I prefer the look of the older Marriotts that had real furniture and a real restaurant. However this one has a very nice tub/shower combo, and a nice sized bathroom. The central courtyard area with pool looked nice from our hotel window above. We were on the 2nd floor as we are Gold members of marriott rewards. The front desk staff were helpful, the staff in the "bistro" were still learning how to prepare the light meals. I ordered a burger and fries for my son. The menu doesn't say this, but the burger comes with fries. They serve free coffee in the morning in the lobby until 10 am. You can also buy the special Starbucks coffee drinks anytime in the bistro. There are two computer stations just to print boarding passes in the hallway near the elevator by the lobby, and there is also an additional computer business center for guests as well. We checked in after 9 pm so we didn't have time to try the exercise center but it looked like a pretty good one. Highly recommended. I like how they put the hearing impaired rooms across from the elevators because those guests won't hear the elevator noise. Good planning on their part. Give it a try, I think you will enjoy your stay. Housekeeping staff need additional training & supervision to make sure they are doing everything they should (like dumping used coffee grounds, cleaning bathroom doors when dirty, etc. ) Hopefully this will happen as it is a new hotel. Overall a good stay and we will be going back. It has been a long time waiting for any type of Marriott hotel in the SB area, so I think it will be very popular.
