Went to the Bacara resort just outside Santa Barara for a night. If you want to indulge yourself with luxury, that's the place to stay. The staff is well mannered. Valet parking, a ride to your room which is luxurious, cosy and warm. Plenty of stuff to do, places to eat and drink. This place is a destination to itself.

Stayed there for two nights. Nice architecture, food was good. The rooms are dated. Wicker furniture with broken branches, no wi-fi, tube TV, faded shutters. No signs througout the proerty espcially if you are attending events and at night when you can't see anything. My wife had a 80 minute massage and with tax and tip included it ws $302. I wouldn't recommend this hotel. We were there with 13 other couples. No one had anything nice to say about their rooms.

Room Tip: Ask for a remodled room. We did but we still didn't get one.

We stayed here last week and the room, service, dining experience at the Bistro and the wonderful setting on the beach were all exceptional.

Our room had a comfortable bed, very good amenities, a nice fireplace and good views of the ocean. The staff at the restaurant were the best we have ever encountered.

Plus the complimentary wine testing at nearby wineries makes it a great break away place.

We will stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a ocean view room with a fire place.

Lisa and I have stayed twice at this property. Let's start with the obvious: the breathtaking views of the ocean and the well-groomed landscape. The architecture is spot on California mission. (Frankly looks like a homage to Ojai Valley Inn & Spa.) Comfortable rooms with patios or balconies. Two huge all-ages pools and an adults only pool next to the Spa. Great walking paths and trails. Top-notch food at the bistro near the beach. (We did not dine at the more upscale facility.) Excellent (though pricey) services at the Spa. Some nights wine and cheese receptions on the house. Other reviewers have given thumbs down to the staff or service issues. We, however, did not encounter any problem of this sort. To the contrary everyone -- from the persons at the front desk to the chambermaids -- went out of his or her way to make our stay a wonderful experience. We will return. Sooner the better. (Oh, forgot to note that Bacarra offers tennis (rubico courts) and golf (several holes along the shore). While we enjoy both we did not play either. Would take time away from walking on the beach or gazing at the ocean while at the pools.)

Room Tip: Second and third floor rooms are quieter than the rooms on the ground floors. Buildings 10 and 11 a...

We recently stayed a The Bacara for a wedding in October. The Property was amazing. We usually stay in ocean front rooms but this time we went with the Wedding Party Rate. The room was very large with a garden view. Very quiet and private. The bathroom was large that had shutters that opened up the the rest of the room. The beds where comfy and the shower was great.
They have several restaurants on the property but we only ate at the one. The Bistro was fabulous. I think we ate there 8 times. Something that I would never think of. But being with a group it made it convenient. The view from our table was amazing. Breakfast was typical and the lunch menu had the best chopped salad ever also good pizza. Then on the last night we had dinner. So romantic. Candle light where the server had to shine a flashlight on your plate so you know what you are eating. It you are a little chilly they bring you your own heater.
The lobby bar is great. With very friendly bartenders.
The pools where beautiful. The spas was also very nice.
The only down side I can think of is that there is a lot of walking to get there. That didn't bother me, but it did to some of my party. So don't fret. The will come by with a golf cart and take you to where ever you want to go!!!
Yes the do have turndown service and they do come every night. I've been to properties where it is hit or miss.
The only bad thing that I can think of is that it is very remote. It cost me $55 to take a cab to Santa Barbara. But I guess if you want get a property like this any closer to Santa Barbara you won't get it. We did visit The Four Seasons Biltmore. Fancy but very cramped. I would definitely stay at the Bacara over The Four Seasons.

Stayed for 3 nights as part of a west coast tour. the room had been recently renovated and was good. The public rooms and pool areas are really very nice, and all the staff we encounterd were very good indded. But there is just something missing, but dont ask me what, just somethng not quite right. Its not the cheapest place to stay and to be charged for parking every night did seem a little mean.

Stayed here twice - both times were amazing. Had the BEST facial I've ever had (and I've had MANY) at the spa, enjoyed swimming in the salt water pools, LOVED the amazing views, the food was incredible, they grow a lot of their own produce at their farm nearby so it's super fresh and incredibly yummy. There is a forest preserve on their property and you can do a small hike up to an amazing spot overlooking the ocean....with a big beautiful tree. I recommend staying during the week if you can, less people and you get the place to yourself. The rooms were super cozy and well decorated. I'm a regular at the Four Seasons and the Ritz hotels, and this is right up there with the best of their locations. Service was great for us too - but we tend to be gracious and kind to people so one often gets what one puts out. :-) Just saying!

Room Tip: If you stay during the week, can get great ocean / pool views. Go for the ocean views if you can af...
