“Nice place, nice staff, decent food and lovely location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2008

Great place for a larger family or group to stay. Rustic, with some newer rooms that are quite nice. Rooms designed to accomodate families (bunk beds in the large rooms). Room charge includes 3 buffet style meals a day, for two. Hearty fare by Henry, the extremely nice chef. Nice main building with a great fireplace and a wonderful place to lounge and or enjoy a pre or post dinner drink. Good hikes right at your front door, and a good surfing beach with good parking straight down the road 3.5 miles. The heart of the Santa Barbara wine country is nearby as well. Looks like there is a continuing upgrade process underway, though the grounds need to be completed and the pool area updated to "impress" the clientele.....The staff is more than nice. Horseback rides are available 3 times a day. GM has a good resume so i would expect it to only get better. Good place!!! Great people.

We drove up from Los Angeles on a Friday morning- left at 1045am, had a leisurely lunch in Santa Barbara (at the Wine Cask- We were pleasantly surprised with their special "Free Wine on Friday" with lunch!! Delicious wine offerings and simple, elegant fare)

We arrived at the Ranch at 3pm, check in was wonderful and the sweet and helpful attendant gave us a tour of the place. It was reminiscent of a Colorado lodge in the main buiding- terrific fireplace, large chic lodge-type furniture, old western style bar- (Jack Daniels on Tap!! ) There was a farm-style kitchen area with complimentary coffee, teas, hot chocolate, muffins and nuts.. and a great big family style dining room with a buffet set-up. There is a separate building with a game room- billards, ping pong, fusball, and a cozy den adjacent with television. The stables were immaculate and the ranch hands take great care of the horses. Our cabin was just a private cabin, modern and cozy with a wood burning stove (kindling, paper and wood all set up) The bathroom was modern and the water was hot (great water pressure!) We enjoyed a private sunset horseback ride and our cowboy had great knowledge about the area and anecodotes about President Regan's ranch, which is adjacent to the property. The trail itself had waterfalls, creeks, beautiful vistas... ahhhh. Riding back in the dark was memorable- bats flying overhead and the simple sounds of nature! Dinner was terrific- halibut or chicken - or both! Asparagus, broccoli, mac and cheese, rice pilaf, salad bar, and dessert was a huge piece of carrot cake- We played games after dinner and soaked in the hot tub before retiring. Breakfast was at 0830, french toast, eggs, sauages, cereal, muffinins, breads, yogurt, juice... the works! We hiked the trails the next morning (they pack a sack lunch for you) but unfortunately missed out on the famous big Saturday night tri-tip BBQ!
Quiet, nice get-away.. great for couples or families-- Beware tho...no cell phone reception!

We just got back last night from a one week stay at the Circle Bar B Guest Ranch and had a GREAT vacation! Our party consisted of two adults and three children aged 9, 11 and 12 and the vacation was perfect for everyone. The ranch is friendly, accomodating and, for the most part, beautifully appointed and updated. I must say, our first room, the two room cabin, was older and a bit disappointing, but we were moved to a gorgeous two-story cabin for only minimally more money per night. That move made our trip so enjoyable and delightful. You should definitely request a "new" room. All food is included and the food is plentiful, fresh and good (not necessarily gourmet). Our only complaint was that it was not very varied from day to day, not an issue if you're only going for a week-end, but for a week it was more of an issue. Also, their picnic lunches were the same every day as well (rather plain sandwiches on bread with chips, soda, granola bar, etc.). However, the pool was great, there is a nice game room with ping pong, pool, fooz ball and the kids were there every waking moment (if they weren't swimming.)

The horseback riding is spectacular, even if a bit slow and the horses are so well taken care of. The horses are beautiful and the stables are clean and well tended. AT night the horses roam the trails and you can go through a gate and walk among the free horses --- a great experience. The rides are climbs up a mountain, so they are mostly walking which is great for novice riders, but by our third ride fo the week, we were ready to go faster. Our guide had us trot a bit but because of the climbing trail, this is not a place to really let loose and gallop. The guides were o.k., but not the friendliest -- my daughter was a bit nervous and they weren't always the most patient, although they did get her up and riding and by the third day she was trotting with the rest of us.

The setting is just gorgeous, the weather wonderful, and we used the ranch as a home station to explore the central coast of CA. We visited Avila Beach, Solvang, wineries, Santa Barbara, etc. Every day was another "perfect day" in Goleta, CA with low humidity, bright blue and sunny skies and a great place to relax. The staff is so friendly and nice and after a week we really felt like family. I would whole heartedly recommend this vacation to anyone with (or without for that matter) children who are old enough to ride. As we drove toward the airport, we all said we want to go back next summer!
