If you're lucky there's a time on any vacation when a truly unexpected event happens that sets the tone for the whole trip. Ours happened here. Having already enjoyed a wonderful day in the Valley of the Moon we stopped by the Saloon for the usual reason. But just having a cold one wasn't enough. We found some locals kicking back at the bar who welcomed us like neighbors. One turned out to be a local winemaker who invited us to a tasting at his vineyard, Kenwood Vineyards, just up the road from Glen Ellen. Well, out went the itinerary for the next day. We didn't eat here but they say the food is good. The beer sure was; the service was friendly and the locals were a hoot! It may be Jack London who brings you in, but it will be the current residents who make you want to stay and return.
