“Most interesting visit of the day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012 via mobile

Honest, informative and insightful visit to a winery we may not have visited had it not been for our guide. Chris, the owner, was great to talk to and extremely knowledgeable about wines and the science of winemaking. We had a fun time and enjoyed all the wines. The port was extremely good. Would highly recommend visit to this winery

“Syrah”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2012

This place is small, you could easily miss it. If you like a good Syrah, don't. The port was also delicious.

“Superb wines with an Aussie touch!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2012

Chris Loxton hails from South Australia and his interest in Shiraz (Syrah) reflects this. Shiraz has been a key part of the South Australian wine landscape for some 150 years. Chris also produces a magical Cabernet Sauvignon (McGraw Vineyard) and, although we loved the shiraz, this cabernet was our wine of choice to take home, along with a delectable late harvest Zinfandel, a dessert wine with a difference and ideal for a chocaholic or cherryholic!

The winery itself is small and intimate and Chris, who is extremely affable, is happy to talk anything related to wine and how it relates to food, and also about the interesting issues related to terroir, which he draws upon in abundance, as is reflected in his well-crafted wines. We also liked the wine transportation system which allows one to take 12 bottles of wine as baggage on the flight, in a polystyrene box with slots for individual bottles which in turn fits inside a cardboard box enclosed in a wheeled transporter bag.

The tastings are truly educational and allow one to assess various wines in accordance with one's tastes but also, to be guided by Chris' perceptions and observations. Along with Kunde, this was a highlight of the Sonoma for us.
