“The best of wine country ambiance”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013

Do not come to the Olea for the rooms -- although they are stylish and comfortable with possibly the finest bed linens we have ever slept on, they are also small and mostly view-less. But you will not care as you will be spending your time outdoors on the wonderful oak-shaded terrace at the rear of the inn, sipping your afternoon wine (included), or capping your evening with a dessert "bite" and more dessert-style wine, or savoring the gourmet breakfast (with mimosas if desired), all the while feeling truly welcome by the friendly staff. I could go on and on, but just believe what others have written. This is a very small inn (not really a hotel), but for us the memories will be amongst the finest we'll treasure from a fairly well-traveled life.

The Olea Hotel in Glen Ellen is fantastic! It is called a hotel but is more like a bed and breakfast. The breakfast alone is well worth the stay. The rooms are comfortable and inviting and the property is absolutely beautiful. The staff makes a special effort to make your stay enjoyable. Its location in Glen Ellen is perfect for touring the Sonoma Valley wineries and the rest of the winery areas in Sonoma County. We will definitely go back for another stay!

The Olea hotel in Glen Ellen is absolutely charming. The rooms are small but recently refurbished and are very well equipped, for example the bathrooms have underfloor heating and wonderful huge shower heads. The beds are really comfortable, and even the bathrobes are well above average hotel quality. The staff are friendly and helpful; during our stay they suggested places to visit and eat and even provided bubble wrap for my wife to pack fragile items. Other facilities include good WiFi, and an outdoor hot tub.

The hotel has a pleasant garden at the rear furnished with tables and chairs where we sat to drink our evening glass of wine; one of the particularly attractive features of the Olea is that they provide generous quantities of free wine in the evening! Breakfasts are amongst the best I've eaten anywhere, gourmet quality and beautifully presented.

The Olea is more of a B&B than a full-service hotel, it doesn't have a restaurant for lunch or dinner, the closest dining opportunities are in Glen Ellen. This isn't a problem as it's about 6 minutes walk down the hill where you can find several well regarded restaurants and one very good restaurant called the Star that produced some of the most innovative cooking we tasted during this trip to California. Take a torch if you're walking back after dark because there are no street lights.

We stayed at the Olea from March 17-20th. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the accommodations and the hospitality extended us. Kent, Chris, Khambay and Laura made our stay at the Olea Hotel a very memorable one. The breakfasts prepared by Khambay and Laura were exceptional. The hospitality and assistance provided by Kent and Chris was very much appreciated. Needless to say we enjoyed our stay at the Olea Hotel and we look forward to staying there sometime soon.

We spent one night here on a recent trip to Sonoma and it lived up to every expectation. From the cosy rooms, full of sweet touches like snacks, dvd player and iphone dock, to the beautiful surroundings, hot tub, complimentary wine and AMAZING 3 course breakfast this place is perfection.

The staff couldn't have been sweeter and I can honestly say I would have given anything to be able to stay for longer.

I couldn't recommend Olea enough... go go GO!

Room Tip: We were in a standard room and it was perfect but if it's a special occasion i'd splash out...

This charming hotel in Glen Ellen exceeded expectations in every way, starting with the warm welcome from Chris. The rooms were beautiful and so comfortable I wanted to take the bed and the rainshower shower head home. The evening happy hour in the back garden was a marvelous way to end the day. Olea advertised "gourmet breakfast" but that doesn't come close to describing the fabulous offerings, including homemade marmalade that had us wanting to lick the jars. Don't miss the fresh fruit scones that melt in your mouth. As a bonus, there are several excellent restaurants in Glen Ellen that are easy walking distance (be careful; no sidewalks.) Bring your bathing suit to enjoy the hot tub in the garden. If we could give 7 out of 5, we would.

Room Tip: You won't go wrong with any room. They also offer cottages, which we did not see.

We thoroughly enjoyed our few days at the Olea and wished we had been able to stay longer. The staff were wonderfully obliging and we even had two deer turn up on our doorstep (room 8) one afternoon. The breakfasts were the best we've ever had and we will be back on our next trip to CA.
