“Convenient stop off SE of San Francisco”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2012

After a very slow journey through Silicon Valley, Gilroy was a haven of rest. Quiet room with two comfortable beds, good furnishings and well supplied bathroom. Black Bear Diner on site was very convenient and surprisingly good (it also has a large number of toy bears of all sizes for sale). Breakfast area too small for the number of guests, but there were chairs in the lobby for the 'overflow'. Reasonable number of choices and everything of good quality. Didn't notice the garlic! Overall, good value.

Our neighbours were quite noisy so at a certain moment in time we called the front desk. Well let us put it like this: this person requires some training how to handle customers.
On the other hand: the next morning the lady in charge of the breakfast was very helpful, taking care of our children and serving us tasty waffles

The staff was very friendly, courteous, professional and helpful. They had just made freshly baked cookies, a nice treat after being on the road for 2 hours. Check-in was a breeze and I was pleasantly surprised at how nice my room was (King Bed, Non-Smoking). My sisters and mom rented the Family Suite which has 2 Queens/Full Bath in one room, and 1 Queen/Full Bath in an adjoining room. It was a great set-up and the hotel arranged for our two rooms to be across the hall from one another. The hotel shares a parking lot with Black Bear Diner, where we had a late dinner the first night. Decent diner food, good service, but a long wait. It is at least convenient for those times when you don't want to get in your car to hunt for food. The hotel is actually considered a motel because the accommodations are detached from the main office & breakfast area, where they serve the complementary expanded continental breakfast each morning. It is a very cramped room and the food is good enough if you want something quick and simple. For a good hot breakfast, walk to BB Diner or drive to Mimi's Cafe, one exit away. I do have two minor complaints: 1) The swimming pool was very dated and walking barefoot on the pool deck brought thoughts of athlete's foot to mind as I noticed all the dirt and mold in the old tile. The water was really cold, prob about 60 degrees, but the kids didn't mind it. 2) The milk which I bought for my daughter, turned sour after 24 hours in the room refrigerator even though it was at the MAX setting. It just couldn't get cold enough. So my daughter didn't get her milk at bedtime and when she woke up. Overall, though, a very good experience. We would definitely come back because the rooms were so clean, comfortable and nice, and the staff was very pleasant. Lastly, we forgot my daughter's baby pillow, which housekeeping turned into the office. The office returned my phone call the next morning and dropped it in the mail. Awesome customer service.

Room Tip: Our room was right across from the ice dispenser. It got a little noisy at times, but closing my ba...

Best Westerns can be iffy - you never know what you might get. We were pleasantly surprised at this property in Gilroy. Stop in Gilroy only if you love garlic and onions ! The smell permeates the town. This BW was very nice. We had a nice big ground floor King room 122A with a little patio. There's a nice pool and hot tub and sauna which we took advantage of. And one of the best motel breakfasts ! The staff in the hotel were very nice & friendly, including the breakfast lady. Good hot food, and pretty good coffee, including eggs and breakfast meats. Property is nicely decorated and maintained. And there's a Black Bear Diner right next door. Only negative is that of the three gates to get to pool area, key only worked in one of them.

Room Tip: We had ground floor room 122 A and it was nice.

We got a discounted room at the last minute (bestwestern.com and we got the AAA rate), and for the price of a regular room, we got a top floor room with a fireplace and new features! We felt like we were in a 4 star hotel! The breakfast is good (and free), and the pool had toys in it. The hot tub is a good size as well. We love this place!

Room Tip: The top floor has the fireplace (gas). They are very romantic. There are lots of restaurants surro...

I have stayed at some pretty expensive hotels for business and for pleasure all across the U.S. I have my choice of where to stay as my company is paying for it. Over the years I have recognized that Best Westerns are a high quality and comfortable choice. They are affordable and consistent in accomodations and have a favorable quality to prices ratio. I just spent two business days at the Forest Park Inn in Gilroy. I did stay in the "executive suite" which was very nice with a fireplace, jacuzzi tub, very large balcony and overall very nice decor. The bed was very comfortable and most of all, everything was very clean and roomy. I did not run across anything that did not function properly. The prople at the front desk and the lady who ran the breakfast area were all first class, were friendly and more than willing to do anything they could to make my stay a good one. I have another business trip planned to Gilroy next month and I will certainly stay here again. I may even get the same room. Thanks, Best Western!

Room Tip: Parking is more plentiful at the very rear of the hotel.

We stayed in a 2 queen bed.Small room for family of 2 adults 1 baby. Restroom door opens inward towards toilet. You must edge against wall to enter and exit restroom. Smell of Garlic is overwhelming 6 days a week, got sick. Only Sunday is no smell of garlic. The Staff was great. But Hotel not so great. Stay in Morgan Hill. Worth avoiding the smell of continous garlic and restroom entry/exit challange. Pool had loud people past allowable time of 10pm. Rules not enforced. Hard Beds! Not soft enough for those who enjoy soft beds. Doors make loud slam noise so close carefully. We would not stay here again. Breakfast is ok.

Room Tip: Stay in morgan hill and fork out the extra money for comfort.

I would like to apologize for your unhappy experience in the City of Gilroy and at our hotel. With respect to the smell of garlic, there is really not much we can do. Gilroy is known as the Garlic Capital of the World, and is the home of the Gilroy Garlic Festival which is now in its 33rd year. The processing of the garlic is done a large part of the summer and most of our guests seem to enjoy it. And, if the wind is blowing a certain way, you can smell it sometimes in the City of Morgan Hill. I am sorry you felt ill because of the garlic smell.

With respect to the room itself, I am also sorry you felt the room was too small, there was difficulty using the bathroom and that the beds were too hard. Since we do receive compliments on how nice our rooms are and how comfortable the beds are, I believe it must be each persons preference regarding these issues. I am sorry you did not find ours to your liking. Where you choose to stay on your future visits is most certainly your choice, but I don't know that you can speak for others.

And, with regards to the rules of our hotel. We do enforce our rules, but there are times when guests using the pool and spa lose track of the time. We will usually check the area and if someone is still in the pool we do ask them to return to their rooms. If there were people in the pool past 10pm and we did not realize it, a simple call to the front desk would have taken care of it.

With respect to the breakfast, I feel this is also a personnel like or dislike amenity. We offer the hot continental breakfast to our guests and it is their choice to enjoy it or go to a restaurant.

If you have any other concerns, please contact us at (408) 848-5144.

Thank you,

Sandy Lee, Senior Desk Agent
