Whenever my husband and I leave the San Francisco Bay area, we are pleased to find restaurant prices so much lower just about anywhere else. This was not true in the Garberville, CA area where entrees ranged from $35.00 for a T-bone steak sprecial(including soup and salad) to $29.95 for shrimp and scallop brochette(three of each on a skewer). The four restaurants we ate dinner at were as follows:
The Benbow Inn in Benbow: The ambience was wonderful sitting out on the terrace listening to piano music. Our bill came to $150.00 for salads, entree, dessert, drinks and wine.
Mateel Cafe in Redway: This was the least expensive place we ate, close to $20.00 for an entree with soup and salad. We both had fish choices that were excellent.
The Brass Rail in Redway: This place was the most casual, the restaurant area having a fireplace with a moose head over it. This was our $35.00 T-bone place, but it was not representative of the menu prices.
707 in Garberville: This restaurant was difficult to find. It is on the 2nd floor of a building and the sign just didn't jump out at us. It is decorated in Art Deco style. A California cuisine menu -- good wine by the glass.
