My wife and I stayed at the Benbow when we first got married almost 40 years ago, it was really something special. Last summer a we went back, while on a trip to CA, we had such fond memories of it we drove a few hundred miles extra to stay there. MISTAKE I don't think the rooms had had any updates since our last visit, but what was the real turn off was the help, particularly at the front desk. Appeared that dealing with guest was a real pain for them. Observed an elderly lady ask how to find her room, she was simply told to go up the stairs carrying her bags, no help offered. My wife and I helped her find her room carried her bags and unlocked her door for her. We had no real request but when inquiring about anything it was as though we really were a bother to them even when there was no one else there. The kicker was as guest of the Inn we were told we would have to go find someplace else for dinner because the restaurant wasn't taking anymore more reservations for the second night we were there. And trust me there isn't much else to choose from nearby. Hope new ownership takes it over and restores it to what a country inn should be, an inviting place where you feel comfortable and welcome during your stay.

Thank you for your January 2013 review from your August 2012 stay. We are please to report we are in the middle of a complete restoration of all of our guest rooms. We are replacing all guest room carpet, wallcovering, draperies, and some furniture. The historical aspects of this restoration will be taken into consideration. In addition to the guest rooms we are replacing hallway capets and wallcoverings. We are having our lobby carpet restored and all of the lobby furniture reupholstered. We are sorry for your lack of proper service. We do feed all of our hotel guests and never turn a guest away. During the busy summer months guests may not get the time they choose for dinner without advance reservations but we never turn a guest away. We are sorry for your experience and look forward to your return to see our new guest rooms and other restoration work.
