I recently had some water damage in my home and had to stay at a local hotel while repairs were being done. I decided on this hotel because it was reasonably priced and in a nice, convenient location to home and work. The first night I was there I tried adjusting the temperature, but it never cooled down in the room. This was not a regular thermostat; it just had "warmer" and "cooler" on a dial then a knob for high, medium, and low. I tried all sorts of combinations on the dial and knob, but had no luck in cooling the room down or circulating the air. I finally just went to sleep. My poor son kicked around all night because he was too warm and uncomfortable. The second night when I got back to my room, I thought I'd try it again, then called for help when I figured the system was just broken. When I told the person at the front desk about this, he explained that they are in between seasons and hadn't switched over their systems -- whatever that means. He said that the air really cools down in the summer. Well, it wasn't summer and I needed some cool air or at least some air circulating in the room since they are old and muggy. I asked if there was another room where the air worked, but he said the whole hotel is set up this way. He then suggested I open a window to get the air flowing. I explained to him that I was alone with my son, on the first floor, and didn't feel safe opening a window. Especially since we were in a corner room, along a driveway in the parking lot. I was going to ask to be moved to an upper floor, so at least I would feel safe about having the windows open, but by then my son was asleep and I didn't want to wake him and gather our stuff to move. The employee didn't even suggest a move to an upper floor...he didn't seem real concerned with our situation.
I would just caution you that if you want some fresh air and don't like to o feel all stuffy, then you should request a room off the ground level so you can at least open the windows and feel safe. This is probably only necessary in between seasons when the hotel hasn't switched over their heating/cooling system. You might just ask before booking.
Other than that, I think this is an average hotel that should use some updating.
