“Love to hike there”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

Oh, love to hike there. Used to go at least once a week. My friends go twice a week and I know some people go even everyday.

Nice preserve, but be careful about parking your car since break-ins are very common.

“The view is breathtaking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012

I love hiking Mission Peak! It's definitely a challenge but at the top, it's totally worth it. There's a bathroom at the entrance so if you need to go to the bathroom it's really your only chance because the other bathroom is really close to the top. I actually hiked this in converse and I have to say that my feet HURT after I came back down. It was quite an exercise going up, bring lots of water!

Most people come on weekends in the morning because it's super hot in the afternoon so if you want to avoid the rush, come during a weekday in the morning. This is also nice to climb if you want to see fireworks at night. A lot of people park on Stanford Avenue and in the Mission Peak parking lot so if you want a parking spot, you better come early! I think they're building a new parking lot for Mission Peak so that's good.

If you like the outdoors, then this is the place for you :)

“Steep but worthwhile hike for sunrise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012

The parking is limited in the Stanford Ave parking lot. We were shocked by how many cars were there by 5:20AM on a Tuesday in October. It seemed like most people were regulars who knew the path well even though we were hiking by the light of the moon & stars (no one was using a flashlight). The trails are wide like a fire road, but watch out for dark spots that may be cow poop since they are free to roam. Since the hike to the peak is a gain of about 2100 feet in approximately 3 miles, the trails are pretty steep. Make sure you bring a flashlight to read the trail signs & print out a map. The Peak trail isn't marked; you must take an immediate right after a gate/barbwire fence-line near the top. We missed this but fortunately the next trail to the right also leads to the top. This is the steepest part of the hike & the trail is narrower.

The fog rolled in as we were hiking, but we hiked above it and were able to watch the sunrise & look down on the foggy/cloudy Bay area. Bring lots of water & sunscreen, especially in the summer because there are only a couple of shaded areas. Also bring clothing that is easy to layer. We changed layers several times due to the cool fog, the heat of walking up steep hills, and the windy mountain top. If you have a hiking stick, this is one hike where it will be useful.

“This is one tough hike with great views!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2012

Mission peak isn't for the timid...this is a steep but wide road hike all the way up with no shade to spare so avoid really hot days but you definitely get a nice reward at the end with sweeping views of the entire bay. Enjoy!
