“A nostalgic train ride back into yesteryear”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Take a few hours on a weekend and treat the family to an old time steam locomotive/train ride thru the beautiful Sunol foothills. Fun for all ages as you traverse the hills and over the streams from the funky train station in Sunol to the old time movie town of Niles. Travel on open or closed cars as you feel the old west.

“Niles Canyon Railway and Niles Area, Fremont”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

This is an old time train ride through the Sunol Canyon - runs two Sundays a month I believe.
The canyon is flat but winding and picturesque. I think it is about a half hour each way - not
positive. Nice old train and children love it. Charlie Chaplin made his early movies in Niles and there is at lest a couple that have scenes shot in Sunol Canyon.

“Wonderful birthday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

I reserved the larger caboose for my husband's 60th birthday when you order the caboose you must begin the ride in Sunol. Before the event I found the staff very helpful. They responded to all my questions within a few days.

On the day of the event, we were given the block of tickets and not asked to pay until after the event. I reserved the 12:30 train, and was able to bring sandwiches and drinks on the ride. There was a small table and counter to place these items easily.

Afterwards the group gathered at the picnic tables next door to take a group picture.

A relaxing a fun Sunday adventure!

“Great for out-of-town visitors!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

Loved the ride, as well as the wine and cheese tastes. I did think visitors probably thought they were in Livermore for all the talk about it, but this was the Fremont Niles Canyon!

“Train of Lights”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

Although it's a bit pricey, we took our kids on the Train of Lights ride at Christmastime. The lines are long so you have to get there early and wait in the cold, but once you're on the train there's plenty of seating. The train has an eclectic mix of cars from different eras and of different styles, so each car is almost it's own experience. On board there's some concessions that serve wintry treats for kids (cookies, candy, hot chocolate, etc.), and a couple of distinguished riders, Mr. and Mrs. Claus, come along on the ride to help add to the holiday experience. Parents of small children should note that the train runs late into the evening, so many younger children will probably end up sleeping through much of the ride.
