“LIKE GOING BACK HOME”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

WE HAVE STAYED AT VARIOUS PLACES OVER THE YEARS BUT OUR FAVORITE IS THE BEACH HOUSE INN. It isn't the fanciest but it is clean, relaxing and dog friendly. The owner, operator is friendly and helpful, but he is retiring. I hope the new owners don't ruin it. We love the estuary, but don't forget your binoculars or you will miss a lot of the action. We were there for 3 nights in September and had a great time.

Room Tip: We have always stayed in the 200 bldg, 2 queens, and have always been pleased.

The Beach House in is on an estuary that promised all kinds of wildlife. It was a pretty view, but we mainly saw ducks and geese.
The room was pretty spacious and had a soaking tub-- nice, but no jets.
They charged us at the beginning instead of at the end, which I never like. What if I hate and we want out of the 2nd and 3rd nights?
The front desk wasn't real helpful; they act like you should already know basic things about the area. There was no helpful info on the area in the room; I had to search my phone to find good places to eat.
We liked having a balcony overlooking the estuary and the ocean across the street. And the friendly black cat who came around and looked up at us daily.

Highly recommend if all you are looking for is clean, quiet, inexpensive. $89 for Q in high season. Asked for non-pet room. In excellent condition. Everything looked newish. Large room on ground floor. Rm 101. Quiet. Very comfortable Q bed. Didn't need view. Very friendly, helpful staff. We didn't need to be in the heart of downtown or Mendocino so this location and price was great!. Quick drive or walk to beach. Close to Hwy but not at all noisy. Easy to find.

Room Tip: We didn't need view or fireplace or hot tub. Wanted cheap. Requested non-pet room due to allergi...

The room was a nice size and super clean. It's a short walk to a sandy beach, plus a walking path along the coast. Although the property is not in the heart of town, it's a short drive into the downtown area. We stayed here because it's pet-friendly, yet we didn't hear or see evidence of pets other than in the parking lot as we and other guests were coming and going.

The Beach House is nicely set up with housing units containing 5 rooms each. We stayed in a very cozy room with a soaking tub and gas fireplace. The estuary view from the second floor was quite majestic. We saw ducks with their ducklings and an otter from our deck. The BBQ's available to use are clean and user friendly. The continental breakfast included scrumptious pastries (not just bear claws), fresh seasonal fruit and drinks. We were glad to be able to bring our pet and to see the room didn't smell or look like pets had stayed there before. Overall, this is a clean, safe and comfortable place to stay at a reasonable price.

Room Tip: Great place if traveling with a pet. Area for them to do their business and nice quiet road to take...

This is a highly recommended choice if you are looking for traveler's options outside of high priced Mendocino. We booked a balcony room with a view of the estuary where we sipped wine watching the wildlife flying by.
Our room was big and airy with cushiony queen beds. We had just been camping for a week so a soak in the comfortably sized tub was a welcome relief.
The proprietors are very no nonsense and accommodating. They recommended Silver's restaurant on the harbor for dinner which was a perfect place to watch the sunset through huge, bay windows. A continental breakfast was provided which included wonderfully fresh fruit and pastries. We will definitely be booking here again on out next trip to northern California!

First for lowest prices be sure to book on website. The woman who checked in before me paid $20 more per night. I love the balconies but they overlook an estuary not the ocean. The ocean is on the other side of Hwy 1--an easy walk from the motel. The continental breakfast is just fruit and Safeway donuts. The rooms are in separate buildings--5 rooms per building which allows for more privacy and quieter conditions. The decor is dated but the rooms are fairly large and clean. Microwave, coffee maker, and small fridge were handy. We enjoyed our stay.
