“spotlessly Clean and the gardens are a must see”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2010

We happened upon the hotel by mistake but it is so nice.! It may not be on the ocean but it has an ocean of beautiful flowers, I have never seen anything like it. The room was spotlessly clean down to the blinds(no dust). The owner and his wife were so hospitable and even took us on a tour of his garden. I would definitely stay at this motel again. I try not to be to picky of a person but the owners of this motel go above and beyond at keeping it clean.

Well, we used to camp when we stayed in Ft. Bragg.....but, we have become quite spoiled staying here with Mr.Reddy and his family and staff. Everything is so well cared for here....gardens are amazing.......your own little Botanical Gardens right outside your door!
Dog runs and facilities are fantastic....also very clean. Our guys look forward to their little routine when we get here and stay a few days, actually excited for their romp to the garden/dog pens...safe and secure with double gated entrance.
There are table/chairs and BBQ with cleaning sinks for abalone and fish cleaning. Everything has been very well thought out here....and we always have a great time!
You get a nice secure feeling here....there is always someone to welcome you there in the office or outside with the staff....adding just the right touch of hands-on management and caretaking.
Each room has it's own little frig. and there is a complementary continental style breakfast for you in the morning...very nice!!
There are two suites with full kitchen and supplies..(will sleep at least 6).......This time we stayed in one of them...(getting more spoiled all the time now!!!)......but even if we go back to our regular room....our favorite....it won't be disappointing! = )
Mr. and Mrs. Reddy and Karen..... make us feel comfy ...not like we're among strangers......nice feeling for sure when you're away from home.
Our fav. grocery store is the next building to the south....Harvest Market, along with Pizza etc. and fast food across the street to the nth. for late-night munchies
You won't be disappointed in this clean, quiet home away from home....just minutes from the sandy beach and ocean!!! = )

The hotel is very clean. The gardens are incredible. Reddy and his staff are vey friendly and helpful and treat you like family. The Fort Bragg area has many sites to see. The beaches are pristine and beautiful. The surf is spectacular. The hotel is "pet" friendly with many amenities for your little ones. There is a large dog run on site. The grounds have bar-b-que facilities. I would recommend a stay here anytime.

We got to Ft. Bragg late on Friday and started checking rates in the usual chains (Super 8, America's Best Value Inn, etc). It seemed that in Ft. Bragg these chains who usually compare to Motel 6 think of themselves as Ritz Carltons. I couldn't see myself paying almost $100 for Super 8 Motel. So we found the Surf Motel and Gardens. It is very clean, the gardens are beautiful, they stock the room with all the ammenities such as coffee and tea, toiletries, refrigerator, microwave and free wi-fi. The interior decor of the rooms is not bad either. The check-in staff is very friendly and knowledgeable (especially Amanda). All that for under $60 per night on the weekend. Next time you are in Fort Bragg, make it a Surf Motel and Gardens night. You will be very pleased with your choice.

As a solo traveling female, I am usually a bit apprehensive about older style motels where the rooms face the parking lot. However, after looking at the rooms of several Fort Bragg motels, I stayed in the Surf Motel and it was great.
The rooms are very nice looking and recently renovated. The manager was very gracious and kind. The best thing here, though, are the gardens. It is no exaggeration that the hotel is called "Surf Motel and Gardens", and I especially liked the gazebo. I hereby want to say thanks to the gardeners !
If the prices in Mendocino are too steep for you, here is a special little place that is an alternative. The wireless internet in the room works flawlessly.
I gave three stars for service, because for a traditional motel, this category does not really apply. The stars take into consideration that this is a traditional motel.

Friendly, helpful staff. Quiet and clean rooms. Beautiful grounds. The beds were incredibly comfortable, which was welcome after a long day of driving. Enjoyed our stay with them and if in the area would definitely stay again.
