“Not a fake review”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2014

Someone stayed here and didn't like it, so said that positive reviews are fakes. No, people have different experiences and expectations. We stayed here for two nights, at the very last minute at the beginning of abalone season.

My husband looked at the room before deciding to stay. The motel is an old motor-court style - I think people would be misled by "Inn and Spa." There are 22 rooms, all on the first floor. Ours had two queen beds. The room was clearly older but it was by no means dirty. We never turned on the TV so don't know or care if it worked or not. The vanity and sink were in the back of the room, with the WC and shower-tub in a separate room, larger than they usually are with this arrangement. The room key is an actual key on a plastic fob that gives the name and address of the place, as well as the room number, so don't loose it.

Our beds were clean and very comfortable. I'm a stomach-sleeper, so I appreciated the squishy pillow.

Because all the rooms are on the ground floor facing the driveway, you probably don't want to leave the windows open at night. Unfortunately, because our vanity and sink were across the back wall, there was no window there. So we opened the window in the WC to get some fresh air while we slept. Both the room and the WC have separate electric wall heaters, so they warmed up fast when we got up.

We didn't see much sign of a spa, except for the nutritionist who has an office on the grounds, and a closed-off area that looked as though it might be a small pool or jacuzzi.

We paid $89 for our room, which was good value for money.

If you are looking for an "Inn" or resort or spa experience, this isn't the place for you. If you want a basic, comfortable Travelodge or Best Western type of accommodations at a good price, you shouldn't be disappointed.

With the name of the place, I was expecting a hotel/spa of sorts. This is certainly more of a ranch motel than that however. Not an issue, just a different than what I was expecting. First the bad. The TV didn't work the first day. As they had just switched to a new service, only a cable was missing and that was fixed quickly. The electric fireplace heater didn't work although the rest of it did. With an additional wall heater, that wasn't a big deal either. Also, the water temp wasn't hot enough. Perhaps a personal preference, but with no cold turned on at all, the temp still wasn't that hot. At one point it went ice cold. After turning it off for 60 seconds or so, the heat came back. Now the good. The place is really nice. The wood floors in the room were fantastic. The decor was nicely done and everything was clean and in order. The bed was very comfortable and the size of the room as a whole was great. We didn't get to experience the hot tub as it was covered, but we didn't ask about it since we weren't around much. We did enjoy a massage that was absolutely fantastic especially after two days of hiking and horseback riding. The staff were all very friendly and courteous. I would certainly recommend this place and would stay here again.

We stayed here a couple nights on our way down the California coast. This motel is south of Ft. Bragg and while it took me a day to get used to the place I did end up liking it in the end. It is an older place but we didn't mind. The bed covers were clean but looked old. It looks like there are continuing improvements being made and the owner/operator, Chong, couldn't be nicer. Not all of the rooms are the same so check out the website to see what you would like. I wish I would have asked for a room with a jetted tub.

Room Tip: The rooms with the jetted tubs looked really nice. There is even one with a kitchen.

We booked the same day of our arrival on a 3 day weekend because there were not many hotels available and truely enjoyed our stay. Our room was beautiful and clean, the hot tub was great to sit in and the massage therapists were incredible. Even though the hotel was not on the waterfront, the beach the access is very short walk and easy to get to. (You can even carry chairs and a cooler to the water.) The best thing about the hotel was the owners and staff. They were very welcoming and kind and made us feel like family!!!

Room Tip: Ask about the different room options - there are many to choose from!

We had miscalculated our reservation dates at another location and found ourselves in Fort Bragg a night too early, with no place to stay. We stopped here to see if they had a room. The hostess was very welcoming. This is an old fashioned motor hotel - the kind where all the rooms are in a row with outside entrances and parking places in front of the rooms. We were looking for low price and minimal frills since we were spending an extra night on our trip that we had not planned or budgeted for. I would describe the Coast Inn as a step above a Motel 6 because of the large and nice jacuzzi tub in the central court. The room itself was spotless, but small. It had everything needed, though, including a small microwave, refrigerator, and coffee-maker. Our only criticism might be the water temperature. If you like really hot water for bathing, the water just doesn't get that hot. If you don't plan to spend much time in your room and are just looking for a clean and affordable place to stay for the night, this is your place.

We have stayed here 4 out of our 5 trips to Fort Bragg. The rooms are reasonably priced for what you get. We wanted a clean room, bath, bed for the night and that is what we got. We spend our time in Fort Bragg not our hotel room except to shower and sleep but when in our room we are content. Chong is a wonderful hostess and it is always a pleasure for us to return.

The Coast Inn & Spa in Fort Bragg is extremely run-down and dirty. If you are thinking about staying here, at least look at the room before you give them your payment. I made the mistake of submitting my credit card before seeing the room, and it was a BIG mistake. I immediately (two minutes later) told them that I didn't want to stay, and they insisted on charging me 50% if I didn't stay. As a compromise, they offered me a "renovated" room, which was slightly better but still run-down and filthy.

TripAdvisor shows two glowing 5-star reviews for this run-down motel, and they are obvious fakes. You don't have to take my word for it: Just look at the room before you let them grab your money. This place is TERRIBLE!

Room Tip: Look at the room before you pay. You can expect the worst, even in their "renovated" room...
