“Clean, Friendly, Economical”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

We used this motel as a base of operations as we explored the gorgeous California coastline and visited the giant redwoods. It was a fantastic find. Honestly, it was the most immaculate place we have ever stayed! The bed was comfortable and the staff, across the street at the small market, were friendly and helpful. We appreciated the strict rules, like no smoking of ANY kind and no wet towels left on the floor because they added to the cleanliness of the room. We have recommended this motel to family living in California and friends traveling that way.

We stayed only one night, but could have stayed longer, we were so pleased with the accommodation. Staff was friendly, beds were comfy. We arrived later rhan we expected and it was no problem. We'll be back!

We stayed one night during our drive up the coast. The outside is well maintained and we loved the character of it. We also admired the fact the owners are very dedicated to continue the family business their grandparents started back in the day. We stayed in a larger room which had a huge kitchen with a full-sized refrigerator and a well lit large bathroom. What an incredible deal, especially if someone should need to stay long term or have a huge family. We have to say although the inside of our room did not have the character that the outside had (we were hoping that, but that is somewhat unrealistic to expect), it was so clean and very comfortable. The rooms were sparsely decorated, you can see small traces of its history (ie. knobs on the cabinets), but freshly painted and extremely well maintained. The family that runs the motel also owns the corner store and during our stay all hotel business was done at the store. You can contact the owners during non-business hours if there is an emergency. Our only advise was we wished the employee that gave us the keys (not an owner) would have told us that the room next to us was being used for production of an independent horror movie. For few hours in the early evening we heard constant angry mumbling and ranting, loud enough for us to turn the television up and worry a bit for this was out of character for this place. To our relief the next morning when we checked out, the mystery was solved.

This was the third low-end hotel we stayed at in Fort Bragg and was by far the best. It is more like an apartment than a hotel room, with separate kitchen and eating area. It really makes a visit to Fort Bragg a pleasant and homey experience. The rules were sensible and not overbearing, like don't leave wet clothes on the carpet - logical.

The motel is an older one but has been kept up and freshly painted and is very clean. From the outside, you wonder a little... Then you open the door and you're at home!

Room Tip: Rooms in the middle of the row are the quietest.

I've been vacationing in Fort Bragg for 40 years. I've rented houses, stayed in hotels and camped. The Columbi, hands down, is the best deal. Where else can you get a room for six with a kitchen for $90 a night on a holiday weekend? The rooms are clean and the location is close to everything. The hotel is run by a very nice family. I've stayed here 7 times now and look forward to many more stays.

This is a very clean family owned motel in a residential neighborhood in Fort Bragg. I have stayed there several times on business over the summer of 2012. The room has a kitchen (bring your own utensils, pots, pans and dishes or rent from the store). There is no in-room coffee so I bring a small stove-top percolator or you can get free coffee at the store which opens at 7am. The kitchen is a separate room and has a table and chairs in there. There is a full-sized refrigerator and plenty of cabinet space. Every room has a carport suitable for the average small car but to tight for my work truck (it will fit in there but I can't get out easily).

Room Tip: Ask for a room back into the place, even the 3rd room back is fine. The street is noisy but quiets...

For $66.60 out-the-door for a very clean room #1, we got a full kitchen (though no utensils), our own carport, and our own water heater. There was no tub and the internet didn't work. The store across the street from which we got our key closed at 9. This place, though, is unique and you'll be reminded of what family-owned motels used to be like. I found it charming and would recommend it.
