“Disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2011

My husband and I stayed one night at the Beachcomber Motel for a short get-away weekend. The motel is not anything as it appears. The rooms were very small. The towels in the bathroom were old and thin. The website says it is supposed to have a breakfast in the lobby, but it was only stale, packaged bagels and pastries that looked so old I didn't even try them. All this for $149 a night in the off season. Do yourself a favor and stay across the road at the Holiday Inn Express. A friend stayed there a few weeks after our trip and was happy with the stay.

We stayed here on 3 and 4 July. The first night the Motel appeared to be very full, it was after all a holiday, but there was no late night noise, though at breakfast it was a bit crowded. Breakfast is basic but absolutely fine. We were surprised at the disposable plates and utensils, but realised later on our trip that this was usual. I guess places that are providing this sort of light breakfast just don't have the facilities for washing crockery. The walks are lovely and Fort Bragg itself has some interesting shops and nice places to eat. We heard neither noise from the road, nor waves as the fresh air meant we slept really well!

First, the location is great, and has a fabulous view. We stayed in the kitchenette room with two queen beds. The layout was nice, the room was pretty large, and a few steps up was a shared deck with seating and BBQ's. We could see the water from the room.

But...

1. The linens were the worst! Scratchy, worn towels; very cheap sheets.

2. Uncomfortable beds!!!

3. The continental breakfast in the lobby was straight out of 7-11.

4. The road noise could not be cancelled out, we couldn't hear the crashing waves, just passing cars.

Therefore, it was not worth the price, because after all your primary purpose in a hotel room is to sleep and shower - and if you can't do that comfortably, then its not worth it.

We stayed in a kitchenette with our 3 little girls. It was a tight squeeze and the beds are a bit small but the location is amazing with a trail right to the beach. We enjoyed barbecuing on the deck, nice gas grill, beautiful view. The kitchen made it convenient to make dinner and breakfast, but it could use a colander. The staff and the other guests were very friendly.

We discovered the Beachcomber by accident 12 years ago. It was new then. I check the room and immediately called the front desk to extend our stay for several days. We have been coming here every July since then. Four or five years ago we felt the place was growing a little seedy and there was loud banging coming from the reconstrurction of the trestle over Pudding Creed, so we moved next door to the quite lovely Surf and Sand, sadly now closed, so we came back to the Beachcomber, and were pleasantly surprised by the renovations. The room is the equivalent of the four star hotel in San Francisco that we had just stayed in, but the bathroom was a trifle small, still the view of the beach bested anything the SF four star had to offer. Listen to the surf! Watch the waves crashing onto the rocks. Examine the starfish clinging to the rock formations. Watch the deer. Walk the haul road. See the seals laying on the rocks. Walk into town. Visit the used book stores, ride the skunk train, visit the Baptist and Lutheran Churches, go to the harbor and eat at Silvers, or at the Depot, or one of the great Pizza places, visit the galleries, view the flowers everywhere.
. We will definitely be back.

This was the first time we had stayed here (usually stay at Surf and Sand; however they are now closed due to death in family) and we loved it. We stayed here over the busy 4th of July weekend so lots of people. Had a downstairs King room (#108) and it was very nice, clean, microwave, frig, flat screen tv w/ HBO & nice bed. There are bbq's that you can use (we did not take advantage of them). My husband wasn't happy that there was no a/c but if you open slider you get a nice breeze from ocean (plus he never travels without his fan for the nightstand). Hotel staff was very friendly (from front-desk to maids). Love that you can sit and see/hear ocean or just walk a few feet to trails down to beach or walk along the bluffs. We'll be back!

Great renovated beachside hotel. Beautiful beach and walking path directly outside the back of the building. Convenient to everything in town. Nice rooms, comfortable beds. Very clean. Nice staff.

We would definitely stay here again if we get back to Fort Bragg.
