Though we have happily stayed twice a year at the next-door Surf & Sand (sadly, now closed), we decided to try the Beachcomber, just north of the recently restored railroad trestle at the north end of Fort Bragg. RIght on the ocean, almost all rooms with ocean view and screen doors, sheers and draperies, we opted for an upstairs 2 queen room for $139 in May. We were overall pleased with the view, the ocean roar, the cleanliness, the modest but sufficient continental breakfast (juice, coffee, breads, pastries, toaster, oatmeal), plus there were a small fridge and a microwave in the room - we brought our own milk, fruit, etc. and enjoyed sitting out on the balcony. The beds were nice and firm. Only complaint was people smoking on their balcony (not allowed); I had a prompt response from the front desk when I let them know - there is no smoking on the property. In addition they gave me a card - for every night you stay you get a stamp and after seven nights you get one free. Free wi-fi didn't always work, but we had no trouble in town at the Headlands, our favorite place to have coffee or listen to great jazz in the evening.
